The trade turnover of Russia and Finland for the year decreased to €1 billion

Trade between Russia and Finland in 2024 amounted to just over €1 billion, which is 11 times less than the level of 2021. This was announced by the Russian Ambassador to Finland Pavel Kuznetsov in February 2025. Mutual deliveries were reduced to several commodity groups that did not fall under restrictions.

According to Kommersant, for the period from January to September 2024, the volume of trade reached €900 million, having decreased by 30% compared to the same period in 2023. A significant reduction in trade occurred after the closure of the land borders at the initiative of the Finnish side.

Aluminum exports reached €23.3 million with an increase of 2.5 times, chemical products - €15.8 million with an increase of 35%, equipment - €11.4 million with a decrease of 7.4 times and protein substances - €8.9 million with an increase of 16%.

Despite the general decline in trade turnover, some categories of goods show an increase in supplies. In particular, this applies to products of inorganic chemistry, fertilizers and aluminum. At the same time, the largest reduction is observed in the supply of industrial equipment and nickel.[1]
