High-speed digital subscriber line. Abbreviation of High Bit-Rate Digital Subscriber Line. Allows to organize balanced lines of data transmission. Because of rather high transmission rate (1.544 MB/sec. on two couples of wires and 2.048 MB/sec. on three couples of wires) telecommunication companies use HDSL technology as an alternative to T1 and E1 lines. The distance to which the HDSL system transfers data makes 3.5 — 4.5 km.
