ISO/IEC of 30149 Internet of Things (IoT) of Trustworthiness frameworks

2019: The Russian experts became coeditors of the international standard of Internet of Things in the field of security

On June 11, 2019 it became known that the Technical committee representing the Russian Federation 194 "The cyber-physical systems" of Rosstandart, created based on RVC, received the status of the coeditor of the international standard ISO/IEC of technology of Internet of Things.

The decision was made at the meeting of the international subcommittee which took place at the end of May, 2019 in Chongqing (People's Republic of China) on creation of ISO/IEC JTC standard 1 SC 41 of Internet of Things and related technologies ("Internet of Things and adjacent technologies"). Russia on behalf of the shopping mall 194 representing the interests of the Russian technology companies at the international level was approved as the coeditor of draft standard ISO/IEC 30149 of Internet of Things (IoT) — Trustworthiness frameworks. In total more than 70 international experts in the field of Internet of Things and adjacent technologies participated in a meeting.

The draft document Trustworthiness Frameworks was discussed within subcommittee of ISO/IEC more than a year. The next stage of development of the international standard includes the three-months period during which the Russian experts will be able to make the suggestions for improvement of the document and to its transition to the following level.

The standard is directed to regulation of questions of the power of attorney of the cyber-physical systems, including Internet of Things, considering at the same time both information, and physical component. The document regulates the power of attorney in a broad sense, including such elements as reliability, functional security, information security, security of personal data, steady functioning in the conditions of the attack.

The document will allow to create accurately requests for solutions which conform to global requirements of information and functional security of digital technologies and personal information, reliability and steady functioning of these solutions in the various and quickly changing environment of Internet of Things. It will allow to provide consumer confidence to digital technologies in general and to Internet of Things in particular, to implement in everyday life the advanced solutions as in the consumer sphere ("the smart cities", the personified public transport, personal medicine), and in the industry ("the Industry 4.0", "smart production").

The approval of the international standard ISO/IEC 30149 is planned in 2021. Parallel development of a national equivalent will happen within the corresponding working group of shopping Mall Internet of Things 194. It is supposed that it will also be approved in 2021.

This event shows that the possibility of influence on international standards exists at any stage of their development. Without being an initial part of initiators and developers of the standard, the delegation from Russia thanks to system expert work within the last year acquired the right to become his coeditors. In it a merit of team of experts of our technical committee from Kaspersky Lab. The status of the coeditor will allow to advance the interests of the Russian organizations integrated within our committee on the international level

It is already the second standard of Internet of Things as which coeditor experts from Russia act. Earlier Russian experts received the status of the coeditor during the work on the standard of standard architecture of sensor networks for power substations (ISO/IEC 30144 Information technology — Sensor network system architecture for power substations) who is also developed within this Subcommittee.

According to the forecast of Research Firm IDC, the market of Internet of Things will grow in Russia on average for 22% a year and by 2021 will exceed $9 billion. At the end of 2017 it was estimated by specialists at $4 billion. Such dynamics of analytics of IDC is explained with the growing interest in technology from business and the state and also a market ecosystem maturity.
