Imagine Cup is the world's largest international competition in the field of information technologies for students held by Microsoft company.

Microsoft believes that the key to the solution of many problems lies in technologies therefore the motto of tender: "Imagine the world where technologies help with the solution of the major modern world problems". The United Nations (UN) formulated the most important world problems, having called eight directions of development in the new millennium (Millenium Goals). Organizers of tender suggest to think up how to use technologies for the solution of these tasks.
Who can take part
Students, graduate students and school students of high school (16 years are more senior), enthusiasts and all creatively configured can take part in Imagine Cup; it is possible to participate in a command or it is individual.
At the time of carrying out tender participants should be trained in educational institution.
What competitions are held
Within Imagine Cup several competitions are held at once. The most interesting and prestigious of them - tender of program projects in which teams of students or graduate students from 1 to 4 persons can participate. Participants need to think up as technologies can help to solve complex problems of the present, to implement a prototype of the software product and to convince jury that your solution - the best.
Other opportunity - to take part in online tenders. It can be done without leaving the house, having sent the request on the Internet.

History of carrying out
2003 Barcelona, Spain
The Russian regional final of the first Imagine Cup took place in MSU on May 12, 2003. After preliminary selection commands of KAZGU, MGAPI, MSTU, MIPT, UNN, NSU participated in the final. The command of MSTU won, Physics and Technology faculties were the second. The international final of tender took place in Barcelona on June 30, 2003.
2004 São Paulo, Brazil
The Russian team was the second in category "Program Projects".
2005 - Yokohama, Japan: victory of Russians
In 2005 Imagine Cup passed in Yokohama (Japan), from July 28 to August 1. The team of students of MIPT and Stanislav Vonoga, Nikolay Surin, Alexander Popov and Ruslan Gilfanov's MSU became the champion of tender in category "Program Projects". "Team Inspiration" submitted the OmniMusic project — a system for the organization of the distributed musical concerts. The command received 25,000 US dollars for a victory. The command of MAI "MaiLabs" under the leadership of Dmitry Soshnikov took the second place in category "Office applications" and received $10,000. Ilya Moiseenko, the graduate of gymnasium No. 36 of Rostov-on-Don, took the third place ($1500) in categories "Web design of High School" (NET.Chess project).
After the victory students from "Team Inspiration" created Musigy company in the city of Dolgoprudny. They rolled the plan for further development of the technology before Bill Gates during his visit to Moscow on November 7, 2006.
2006 - Delhi, India
In 2006 in tender 65,000 students from 100 countries of the world, the final took part in Delhi (India), prize fund of competitions was 170 thousand dollars. Subject Imagine CUP 2006: "Provide the world in which technologies allow to lead healthier life". Competitions consisted of six thematic tenders:

- The Hoshimi project is Fight of programmers
- Design of interfaces
2007 - Seoul, South Korea
Subject Imagine CUP 2007: "Provide the world in which technologies open for all and everyone a way to the best education". In Seoul (South Korea) participants in nine categories competed.
2008 - Paris, France
Subject of tender of 2008 in Paris (France): "Imagine the world in which technologies help to support the stable environment".
2009 - Cairo, Egypt
Subject of tender of 2009 in Cairo (Egypt): "Imagine the world in which technologies help to support the stable environment" (such subject is accepted as a constant for several years ahead). The command from Russia of ViVa, Nizhny Novgorod, UNN took the 2nd place in the Software Design nomination.
