2021: Russia rose to 25th place in the Internet accessibility rating

In the world index of inclusive Internet (Inclusive Internet Index) in 2021, Russia took 25th place out of 120 countries included in the study. It was published by the analytical unit of the British Economist The Economist Intelligence Unit.

The Inclusive Internet Index estimates countries according to four indicators:

• Availability (assesses the quality and breadth of the available infrastructure for Internet access, as well as the levels of Internet use)
• accessibility (affordability, cost of access in relation to the income level of the population and the level of competition of Internet providers);
• relevance (relevance, availability and diversity of local language content);
• readiness (readiness, opportunities for mass access, including the skills of the population, cultural and information policies).

Russia shared 25th place with Germany. According to the Internet availability indicator, the Russian Federation is located in 25th position, in terms of accessibility - in 10th place in the world. In terms of relevance, Russia took 4th place in the list. The study noted that especially distributed content in Russian on the topic of finance and health). According to the readiness indicator - only in 52nd place out of 86.

In the index of inclusive Internet in 2021, Sweden was in first place, in second - the United States. Spain took third place. At the end of the list are Congo, Liberia and Burundi.

According to analysts, the results of the index and survey this year show that, despite the fact that Internet access is increasing worldwide, growth is slowing, especially in low-income countries where expansion is most needed. More than half of the world is connected to the Internet, but the remaining proportion, consisting mainly of women and those living in the poorest places, will be more difficult to reach.^[1]
