2024: Global Industrial Laser Market Size Reaches $21.21 Billion for the Year
In 2024, sales of industrial lasers on a global scale amounted to $21.21 billion. Almost half of this amount fell on the Asia-Pacific region. Such data is contained in the Fortune Business Insights review, which TAdviser reviewed in early October 2025.
Lasers are widely used in various industries. They are used for high-precision cutting of materials, welding, engraving and other tasks. 3D laser printing makes it possible to create highly accurate objects from liquid photopolymers or powders (plastic, metal) by layer-by-layer laser curing or sintering. Industrial lasers allow you to work with a variety of materials, including metals, plastic, glass and wood. Lasers are used in the production of semiconductors and consumer electronics, for example, for cutting plates. In addition, laser heat treatment is used to strengthen and modify the surface of metal products, improving their wear resistance and service life.
Analysts note that the demand for industrial lasers is growing, as such equipment helps to increase production efficiency and reduce costs. Laser systems allow you to automate certain operations, thereby speeding up the production of products. This reduces the number of errors associated with the human factor. In addition, due to the lack of wear of cutting tools and the minimum amount of waste, operating costs are reduced. The absence of mechanical contact with the surface prevents deformation and scratches, which is especially important when working with fragile and expensive materials. Plus, laser treatment does not require the use of chemicals, which reduces environmental pollution and improves working conditions.
The market driver is technological advances. Developers are constantly improving the performance of laser systems, creating more powerful, accurate and compact installations.
At the same time, certain restraining factors stand out. One of them is significant initial costs associated with the purchase, installation and commissioning of laser equipment. To perform such work, highly qualified specialists are required, the search for which may arise difficulties.
Industrial lasers by the type of active medium are divided into gas (CO2 lasers), solid-state, semiconductor (diode), fiber, etc. In 2024, fiber solutions brought the lion's share of revenue - approximately 46%. In terms of application, electronics, metalworking, automotive and non-metallic materials are distinguished. The first of the listed areas is in the lead. From a geographical point of view, the Asia-Pacific region dominates, which accounted for 49.32% of sales in monetary terms, or $10.46 billion. Significant industry players on a global scale are:
- Calmar Laser;
- Amonics;
- Trumpf;
