2020: Selection of 50 million dollars within a technology initiative of fight against a coronavirus

On April 7, 2020 it became known that the Intel company will select additional 50 million US dollars within a technology initiative of fight against a coronavirus which consists in acceleration of access to technologies in medical institutions, development of scientific research and also providing pupils and teachers with tools for online training. The expanded initiative includes additional fund of development of innovations for those cases where access to expert potential and resources of Intel is capable to provide instant effect. Measures are taken in addition to the donations announced earlier for the total amount of 10 million dollars, the regions of active presence selected for support in this critical time.

For April, 2020 the world faced an enormous task of fight against COVID-19. Intel aims to accelerate access to the technologies capable to counteract a pandemic and also creates conditions for emergence of technologies and discoveries which will allow society to be prepared for crises of the future better.

As it was reported, funds will be allocated for the following: about 40 million US dollars will be directed to program implementation of Intel COVID-19 Response and Readiness and Online Learning. Within the Intel COVID-19 Response and Readiness program partners and clients will receive financing for the accelerated development of solutions in the field of diagnostics, treatment and creation of vaccines due to such technologies as artificial intelligence, high-performance computing and infrastructure cloud solutions. Within this initiative Intel will help production companies in the field of health care and medicobiological sciences to increase availability of technologies and the solutions used in hospitals for diagnostics and treatment of COVID-19. Besides, the initiative will support creation of industry alliances for expansion of global examination and opportunities and also for formation the politician of response to this and future pandemics, relying on experience of Intel in the field of implementation of technology innovations in the field of health care and medicobiological sciences.

The Intel Online Learning program is focused on support of non-profit organizations and business partners of Intel which work in the field of education, and designed to help them to provide studying, not having access to technologies, necessary resources for online training. The initiative will be implemented in close cooperation with schools and assumes donations of the PC, providing with virtual online resources and instructions for training at home and also the help in connection of devices. The initiative of Intel Online Learning confirms long commitment of Intel to the technologies improving education. Program implementation starts in the USA, in regions with the greatest need for educational resources, and then will be widespread globally.

Besides, the corporation selects 10 million US dollars for fund of development of innovations which supports projects of external partners of Intel and also projects of staff of the company directed to satisfaction of critical needs of regional divisions. For example:

  • Intel works with the Indian council for scientific and industrial research and the International Institute for Information Technology in Hyderabad over deployment of client and server solutions of Intel for acceleration and reduction in cost of testing for COVID-19 and also for sequencing of a genome of a coronavirus for the purpose of improvement of understanding of epidemiology and stratification of risks at patients with associated diseases by means of AI technologies. Besides, Intel cooperates with National association of developer companies of the software and services (India) in creation of an ecosystem of applications and a multicloud backend for diagnostics of the population on COVID-19, forecasting of flashes and improvement of quality of delivery of health care in scales of the whole country.
  • The Sickbay platform of Medical Informatics Corp. (MIC) corporation constructed based on technologies of Intel represents the solution which allows to turn in read minutes normal hospital beds into beds of virtual intensive care unit, to help to protect employees of critical services from risk of infection due to clinical distancing and to considerably expand their opportunities for care of patients. A few weeks ago the Houston Methodist Hospital unrolled the Sickbay platform for creation of virtual intensive care unit (vICU) and could transform in one day it for monitoring of patients with COVID-19 and also gave to medical personnel an opportunity of monitoring of patients in chambers of intensive therapy without risk of infection.
  • In Great Britain Intel cooperates with Dyson and medical consulting firm TTP for delivery of FPGA devices for CoVent, the medical ventilator which was developed specially at the request of the local government. For April, 2020 time the ventilator intended for installation on a bed gets approval of regulating authorities.

Technologies of Intel are the cornerstone of the crucial products and services necessary for functioning of global communities, governments and organizations of health care.

The measures undertaken by Intel for fight against a coronavirus: for April, 2020 the technology initiative of fight against a coronavirus is addition to the donations announced earlier for the total amount of 10 million US dollars, the regions of active presence of Intel selected for support in this critical time. Donations include 1 million gloves, masks and other equipment for health workers, 6 million US dollars from Intel Foundation fund for the help in regions of active presence and also the amount in the amount of 4 million US dollars from Intel and its divisions worldwide.

Additional technology initiatives: as it was announced earlier, Intel combines efforts with Lenovo and BGI Genomics for acceleration of the analysis of a genome of Covid-19. Besides, Intel along with other companies joined alliance XPRIZE that through joint efforts to accelerate the solution of pressing problems in the conditions of crisis.
