2023: Doctors of the Krasnoyarsk hospital performed the first operation to implant the artificial iris of the eye
In the Krasnoyarsk Regional Ophthalmological Clinical Hospital. Professor P.G. Makarov for the first time performed a unique operation to implant an artificial iris (the procedure is called iridoplasty). The press service of the Ministry of Health of the Krasnoyarsk Territory announced this on November 15, 2023.
The artificial iris itself is a circular prosthesis that implants into the anterior chamber of the eye. Its color can be made absolutely the same as that of the second eye.
Iridoplasty is required in cases where most of the iris tissue is lost due to injury, surgery, as well as congenital problems, they say in the Ministry of Health of the region. Implantation is also carried out as one of the stages of more complex operations, where strict postoperative control over the patient's eye parameters is required.
In the Krasnoyarsk Regional Ophthalmological Clinical Hospital, by November 15, 2023, two patients had an artificial iris implanted, with a good outcome in visual acuity after surgery. The operations were performed by the doctor of the highest category Kristina Peschasova.
We ophthalmologists are lucky enough to be around patients the moment they realise that vision has returned, what they are seeing. This is a great joy and a powerful charge of energy! Therefore, our team has big plans to expand the medical services that we present, to improve the quality of ophthalmic care provided, as well as to implement new standards and technologies. Everything so that as many of our patients as possible can see all the colors of the world, "said Anatoly Maksimov, chief physician of the Krasnoyarsk Regional Ophthalmological Clinical Hospital named after Prof. P.G. Makarov.[1] |
