2024: Year-over-year sales growth of lawnmowers and trimmers up 24% to 2.8 million units

Sales of lawnmowers and trimmers in Russia in 2024 soared by 24% and reached 2.8 million units against 2.2 million units in 2023. The driver of the increase in sales of garden equipment was the increase in the number of transactions with suburban real estate due to the closure of preferential mortgage lending programs. This is evidenced by research data published in May 2025.

According to BusinesStat, which prepared the "Analysis of the lawn mower and trimmer market in Russia," sales dynamics showed uneven growth over a five-year period. In 2020, 1.9 million units of equipment were sold, in 2021 the figure increased by 57% to 3.0 million units.

The sales chart shows a decline of 18% to 2.5 million units in 2022, and a decline of 10% to 2.2 million units in 2023. The market recovery began in 2024 with sales growth of 24%.

The increase in real incomes of the population and the availability of Chinese brands of acceptable quality contributed to a change in the perception of garden equipment. Consumers stopped considering lawnmowers and trimmers as expensive exotics and began to perceive them as necessary tools for caring for the territory.

The market for lawn mowers and trimmers in Russia is as dependent on supplies from China as possible. Chinese manufacturers offer a wide range of equipment of various price categories, which makes products available to the mass consumer.

Garden equipment is used to care for lawns, prepare territories for agricultural, construction and other work. Lawnmowers and trimmers are also used for foraging farm animals in farms.

There is an increase in sales of battery models on the Russian market of lawn mowers and trimmers. The development of battery lithium-ion technology contributed to the simultaneous reduction in the cost and increase in the productivity of garden equipment.[1]

2013

In March 2014, the DISCOVERY Research Group marketing agency presented the results of a study of the lawn mower market in Russia in 2011-2013.

The market takes into account the features of the Russian landscape and offers various lawn mowers: manual lawn mowers (trimmers), wheeled lawn mowers and riders (mini-tractors). Lawn mowers can be electric, fuel (mainly gasoline) and mechanical. They can also be self-propelled and non-self-propelled. These garden units differ from each other in functionality and, of course, in price.

The volume of the Russian lawn mower market in 2013 amounted to 325.5 thousand units of equipment. DISCOVERY Research Group data.

The companies engaged in the production of lawn mowers in Russia are: LLC Sadovaya Tekhnika Kalibr, CJSC Interskol, Energomash, Encor, CJSC Zubr UWC, Profer. Nevertheless, the production of lawn mowers in Russia is poorly developed, so the market is mainly represented by models imported into the country.

Most of all in the import structure are electric lawn mowers - about 70% in the import structure in physical terms, followed by fuel lawn mowers - almost 30%. Mechanical lawn mowers in the import structure make up a small share.

It is worth noting that the most popular imported brands are those of German manufacturers. There is practically no export of lawn mowers.

DISCOVERY Research Group estimates that the lawnmower market is slowing to date, but the market continues to recover to 2011 levels. In the near future, positive changes are expected in the lawn mower market due to the influence of factors such as the growth of suburban construction and an increase in interest in the decor of the summer cottage.
