Market map "Digitalization of industry 2024"

The TAdviser analytical center has prepared a new map on which IT companies developing products for the digitalization of production processes were noted.

During the work on the map, the main business processes of industrial enterprises were segmented, suppliers offering solutions for their digitalization were collected and distributed by segments. The card included over 250 companies, distributed across 14 functional units.

When filling the map, analysts used several sources of information, in particular, the knowledge base on TAdviser IT projects, including company questionnaires and the rating of the largest IT suppliers in industry, as well as information from the sites of IT product developers for industrial enterprises.

The project partners were five companies with wide experience in implementing various projects in industry:

  • Korus Consulting is a strategic IT partner for complex business change through technology development and digital transformation.
  • Vesna is an IT visionary in the development of products and systems of any complexity for business, industrial companies and the state.
  • Isource is a digital platform for improving industrial supply efficiency.
  • Ramax Group is an association of system integrators and development companies that have been implementing comprehensive digital transformation projects for more than 30 years, taking into account the industry specifics of customers.
  • Ideco is a Russian developer of software products for filtering traffic, protecting networks and developing network infrastructures of any level of complexity.

At the request of TAdviser, experts from partner companies of the project shared their opinion on the IT priorities of industrial companies and the features of import substitution, which almost all market participants faced.

On priority areas of digitalization of industrial enterprises


Denis Saltykov, Business Architect of the 1C Department of KORUS Consulting Group:

Import substitution of foreign software remains one of the most priority areas. Many companies began to switch to domestic software back in 2022-2023, but these projects are long-term, so work in this direction continues.

The second direction is associated with the modernization of IT landscapes. For example, in 2027, the vendor will stop releasing updates for the 1C: Manufacturing Enterprise Management system, so industrial enterprises are already starting to implement migration projects to 1C:ERP Enterprise Management or 1C:ERP Holding Management.

The third area is IT projects related to the optimization of various production and business processes. The main goal of such projects is to save enterprise resources and reduce costs. Therefore, we see an increased demand in the market for such IT solutions and products, as well as for the design of more effective methods for managing various processes so that the business can have a significant effect: increasing the efficiency of using stocks and resources, optimizing supply chains, etc.

Also among the priorities are more targeted areas, for example, improving the reliability of equipment and extending its service life (digital solutions in the field of MR, production planning systems, etc.).

In general, we can say that from the point of view of the IT direction, in addition to import substitution, the priority is optimization, cost reduction, the introduction of new effective tools and methods, and, as a result, an increase in revenue.

Currently, the digitalization of industrial enterprises is focused on several key areas:

  • Accelerate new products to market. The use of digital technologies reduces the time to develop and test new products, which contributes to faster introduction to the market.
  • Increased safety and reliability of production. The introduction of data monitoring and analysis systems prevents accidents and equipment failures, thereby increasing the safety of production.
  • Increased production flexibility. Digitalization allows you to quickly respond to changes in demand, adapting production to new conditions, which increases its flexibility.
  • Increase control over production in order to improve the quality of manufactured goods. Digitalization of quality control processes and the use of data analytics allow you to identify and eliminate defects in the early stages of production, improving product quality.
  • Total increase in production efficiency. The use of digital technologies helps to optimize production processes, reduce costs and increase the overall efficiency of the enterprise.
  • Introduction of lean manufacturing technologies. With specialized IT platforms, companies can simplify the implementation of the lean manufacturing concept and automate the management of this system. Such platforms can be adapted to the needs of a particular company and become an indispensable tool at different stages of lean production.

To implement the tasks, the following digital technologies are used:

  • Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT). Combine production equipment with sensors and controllers for real-time data collection and exchange. This allows you to optimize production processes, reduce downtime and increase overall efficiency.
  • Digital twins. Create virtual copies of physical objects or entire manufacturing processes that can be used to model, predict, and optimize operations.
  • Big Data and Analytics. Process huge amounts of data to identify patterns, trends, and opportunities for improvement. This helps to make informed decisions based on facts.
  • Artificial intelligence (AI). Using machine learning and deep learning algorithms to automate processes, predict market needs, optimize logistics, and more.
  • Automated Production Planning (APS). AI-based systems that make detailed production plans considering material availability, personnel qualification and equipment availability. This allows you to optimize order times and improve equipment utilization efficiency.

Today, the key challenges for large industrial enterprises are infrastructure security and sustainability. They are due to the use of global information and communication networks and information systems. Given the forced use of foreign equipment and software in their construction, domestic industrial enterprises are focused on replacing support systems for the main production processes by classes: ERP, CAD, CAE, CAM, PLM, MES, PDM, MDM, etc. These tasks are solved both by introducing ready-made domestic systems with a high degree of compliance with the requirements of industrial enterprises, and by developing specialized products within the framework of industrial competence centers.

At the same time, our experience with industrial enterprises in the past few years continues to affect completely different areas of digitalization: from optimizing business processes, in particular using Process Mining and Task Mining systems, to migrating information systems and drawing up a roadmap for the transition to domestic software.

The main drivers of information security development for industrial enterprises are still two: replacing foreign solutions to comply with the requirements of Decree of the President of the Russian Federation No. 250, as well as due to the refusal of foreign vendors to support and update solutions (workarounds for their support have become much more complicated due to the sanctions adopted this year).

The second driver is continuous intensified attacks on enterprises related to CII. Both of these drivers force customers to look primarily for solutions to protect the network perimeter from modern attacks (NGFW), protection against DDoS attacks and protection of web resources (WAF and other solutions).

In the protection of end devices, as a rule, domestic solutions have already been used before, but now protection tools often need to be replaced due to the transition to domestic OS.


On the features and difficulties of import substitution of foreign IT solutions in industry

Based on the adopted State Strategy for Digital Transformation of Industrial Enterprises until 2030, a significant part of production companies have developed and approved their own digital transformation programs and are consistently implementing them. At the same time, the main challenge in replacement issues is the implementation of ERP/MES/CAD class systems. They cover almost all production chains and often required significant customization even during the implementation and operation of systems of foreign vendors, which are actually recognized as an international standard. As you know, at the moment many market players are actively working to create domestic analogues that will be in demand if they meet the high requirements of the industry.

Over the past two years, the number of industrial companies that began to use Russian IT solutions has increased significantly. It is worth noting that this is not only about state-owned enterprises that should migrate to Russian software according to the national program "Digital Economy of Russia" (they are obliged to purchase about 70% of Russian software). Large commercial companies, for example, manufacturers of building materials or food products, also want to mitigate the risks associated with the use of foreign software (especially for business-critical high-load systems - ERP, WMS, etc.).

If we talk about classes of information systems, then the situation is heterogeneous. For example, given that Russian industrial enterprises have already accumulated experience in migrating from foreign ERP systems to the 1C platform, as well as the experience of subsequent customization based on industry features and business tasks, we can say that import substitution is successful in this category of IT solutions. The situation is more complicated with highly specialized solutions in the field of APCS or MES - now companies are actively looking for an alternative, and vendors are working on the creation and testing of these products. At the same time, new players appear on the market who can already offer quite mature products for working with MR.

Significant difficulties can arise when forming a functional volume that needs to be transferred to a new system. First, domestic and Western systems differ in terms of feature set, performance and scalability. Secondly, historical IT solutions of industrial enterprises are almost always modified (in accordance with industry specifics, features of production and business processes, company goals). To ensure the necessary level of service, it is necessary to "transfer" functionality to new platforms and systems, simultaneously optimizing imperfections, and for this, often, IT competencies of industrial companies are not enough - industry and design expertise of the IT partner is required.

The greatest difficulties in import substitution in industry arise with the replacement of embedded operating systems (incompatibility of domestic built-in operating systems with equipment and the need to improve functionality), data storage software (insufficient functionality of current domestic solutions and integration problems), office packages (difficulties with user migration and further use) and ERP systems (enterprise resource planning systems often require adaptation and refinement to the unique processes of industrial companies, and this complicates the process of switching to domestic counterparts and replacing such systems).

Among the main obstacles, the following can be distinguished during import substitution of software in industry:

  • Project cost. Replacing the existing solution requires significant investment, and the return on these investments may not be obvious in the short term.
  • Risk of process maturity loss. Maintaining current principles of operation and process maturity can be a critical factor in choosing a new solution.
  • Migrating a data array. Importing a large amount of accumulated data requires careful preparation and planning.
  • Secondary IT integration. The need to integrate with many existing solutions and services can be difficult.
  • Lack of desire for transparency. In some cases, managers are not ready for the full transparency of data that is achieved through comprehensive digitalization. Because of this, it is necessary to include the possibility of deautomatization and the use of manual work of specialists in digitalization projects.
  • Inertness of switching to a new tool. Users may have difficulty adapting to the new interface and services.


Dmitry Khomutov, director of Ideco:

In the field of information security, the greatest complexity is associated with the means of protecting the network perimeter for large networks loaded with traffic, especially data centers and information systems for APCS. Domestic solutions are developing, but their number (more than 20 NGFW in the market) makes you very carefully approach the choice and test even market leaders for a long time. As a rule, TOP-5 solutions are tested, which is also labor-intensive.

A feature is also the need for close interaction with vendors - not a single solution is suitable immediately out of the box, to replace a foreign one-in-one. The work of specialists is required either to change the IT infrastructure in accordance with the capabilities of the NGFW solution, or to work closely with the vendor to quickly implement the missing functionality.
