Medical thermometers (thermometers)

2023: Decrease in sales in Russia by 12% to 9.9 million units

In 2023, about 9.9 million medical thermometers were sold on the retail market of Russia (including online channels), which is 12% less than in the previous year. In monetary terms, sales decreased on an annualized basis by 15.7% - to 3.3 billion rubles, as stated in the report of the analytical company RNC Pharma dated February 13, 2024.

The situation on the market as a whole in 2023 was determined by a decrease in sales in the offline segment: here demand in relation to 2022 decreased by 19% in monetary terms and by 15% in units. On the other hand, the e-commerce sector showed an increase both in rubles (plus 16% year-on-year) and in pieces (plus 23%). However, the volume of sales of medical thermometers on the Internet in Russia is only 11% of the market as a whole, which did not allow online channels to compensate for the overall decline.

In 2023, sales of both analog and electronic medical thermometers decreased in the Russian Federation. In the first of these categories, the fall in relation to 2022 in unit terms was recorded at 10.8%, in the second - 13.5%. It is noted that analog devices on an annualized basis fell in price by 7.4%, while the price tag for the electronic type of thermometers almost did not change (minus 0.6% year-on-year).

Among the suppliers of analog devices in 2023, the British Meridian Medical Products was the leader in terms of revenue, and the second place belongs to the Russian enterprise Termopribor: and their difference is relatively small - about 1.3 million rubles. The companies saw year-on-year sales declines of 1% and 4%, respectively. In the segment of electronic devices, leaders in terms of sales volume are A&D and BiVell, whose ruble sales differ by 6 million rubles. The drop in revenue compared to 2022 is 8% and 3%, respectively.[1]
