2023: Metaverse Creation

On January 16, 2023, the Seoul government unveiled a massive project called Metaverse Seoul. We are talking about creating a virtual copy of the city with access to various services and resources.

It is noted that South Korea will be the first in the world to launch a double of its capital in the metaverse. In the virtual space, users will be able to play, chat, visit the city hall and admire the sights of Seoul. Ten popular tourist spots of the metropolis were recreated, including Gyeongbokkun Palace Complex, Bukchon Hanok Village, Dongdaemun Design Plaza shopping center, Seoul Forest Park, Hangan River and Lotte World Tower - a 123-story ultra-tall skyscraper located in the Lotte World entertainment complex area.

A virtual copy of a city in the metaverse has been created in Seoul

Various services will be provided on the basis of Metaverse Seoul. In particular, citizens will be able to access certain official documents, file complaints, as well as request up-to-date information about taxes. Over time, the list of available services will expand. In the business support center, companies will be able to conduct remote consultations with experts using voice and video communication. A special service for teenagers will offer mentoring and training assistance. In addition, a fintech laboratory has been deployed.

The creation of a virtual copy of Seoul will take place in several stages. About $1.6 million was spent on the first phase, and the implementation of the second will cost another $2.2 million. The authorities intend to cooperate with the organizers of various events held in the city so that they can be transferred to the metaverse. The virtual metropolis access app is designed for Android and iOS operating systems. The completion of the third final stage of the project is scheduled for 2026.^[1]
