Global Automated Breast Pumps Market Reaches $1.88 Billion for the Year
In 2024, sales of automatic breast pumps on a global scale amounted to $1.88 billion. Such devices are most in demand in the North American market, which accounted for almost half of global revenue. This is stated in a study by Fortune Business Insights, the results of which were published on August 5, 2025.
The principle of operation of all breast pumps is the same: they create a vacuum, thanks to which milk is expressed. In the case of automatic models, a small electric motor is used to form a vacuum. The advantages of such products over manual analogues include the speed of pumping, the presence of several modes, the absence of physical effort, etc. However, there are also disadvantages: automatic breast pumps can be quite noisy, and their operation requires batteries or connection to the electrical network.
Analysts note that automatic breast pumps are in increasing demand among women. These devices allow mothers to express breast milk and then feed them children at a convenient time and anywhere, which is especially important given the dynamic lifestyle of modern women. There has been an increase in demand for breast pumps in developing countries such as China, Brazil and India. Moreover, public and non-governmental organizations around the world are focusing on improving awareness of the benefits of breastfeeding among the female population. This increases the demand for milk pumping devices.
In addition, technological advances contribute to the growth of demand for electric breast pumps. Some models are equipped with a Bluetooth adapter and special sensors, which allows mothers to control milk production and pumping efficiency. Such devices transmit data to a companion application on a smartphone, providing real-time feedback, reminders and the ability to create individual pumping schedules.
One of the main factors that inhibit the spread of automatic breast pumps is their relatively high cost. Limited awareness of the benefits of such devices among women, lack of social support combined with different cultural barriers also lead to a slowdown in the industry.
By application, the market is segmented into hospital and consumer class products. In 2024, the second type of solution dominated. On the other hand, the medical-grade device sector is showing significant growth: such solutions have a number of advantages, including increased suction strength, durability and the possibility of double pumping. Geographically, North America leads, accounting for 45.2% of revenue, or approximately $0.85 billion. The increase in sales in this region is facilitated by the high level of development of the health sector. However, the highest growth rates are recorded in the Asia-Pacific region. Globally, significant players are named:
- Medela;
- Ameda;
- Ardo Medical AG;
- Willow;
- Koninklijke Philips;
- Spectra Baby USA;
- Momycozy;
- Freemie;
- Evenflo Feeding.
In 2025, the market size is expected to reach $2.03 billion. Fortune Business Insights analysts believe that in the future, the CAGR will be 8.5%. Thus, by 2032, sales of automatic breast pumps may increase to about $3.61 billion.[1]
