Motherboards (world market)

.

2018: Decline of the market by 10% up to 40 million pieces

The volume of the world market of motherboards in 2018 reached about 40 million pieces — so many units of production were delivered by producers in total. In comparison with 2017 shipments of devices decreased more than by 10%, and the negative trend can remain in the future. In January, 2019 the Taiwan trade publication DigiTimes reported about it.

The Taiwan Asus which produced about 14-15 million products became the market leader of motherboards at the end of 2018. Gigabyte Technology with result in 10 million delivered payments was at the second place, and top three was closed by Microstar International (MSI) which sold about 6 million copies to the canal. The ASRock company became the fourth in the list, having delivered 4 million devices. Thus, the leading group completely consists of the Taiwan producers.

The market of motherboards sank for 10% because of deficit of Intel processors

Falling of the market of motherboards in 2018 is connected first of all with decrease in rates of updating of a computer hardware and also with deficit of Intel processors of initial and average levels. Because of this shortage came less payments to the market, than required demand.

It is expected that in 2019 the market of motherboards will also fall, however recession will be not such strong as the previous year, i.e. less than for 10%. Asus, MSI and ASRock have good chances to save supplies of equipment at the level of 2018 at the expense of the offer of high-performance expensive devices. At the same time competitors, including Gigabyte, Biostar Microtech International and Elitegroup Computer Systems (ECS), most likely, will show the falling sales because of a high share of products of initial level in the range.

One of the factors having a negative impact on the market of motherboards at the beginning of 2019 is easing of demand for this equipment from those who are engaged in production of cryptocurrencies.[1]
