2022: Running the program

On February 19, 2022, Malaysian Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhiddin Yassin presented MyDigital, a plan for the development of Malaysia's digital economy, which will determine the growth trajectory of the country's digital economy.

The MyDigital project was developed as a complement to national development policies, including Malaysia's 12th Plan (12MP) and Common Prosperity Vision 2030 (SPV 2030). The initiative MyDIGITAL also aligned with the aspirations laid down in the UN Sustainable Development Goals. The digital economy has been identified as the key direction of economic growth (KEGA) in the implementation of SPV 2030.

The plan also serves as an indicator of the direction of digital transformation, which can stimulate the business sector to compete in the global arena by increasing the speed and effectiveness of their activities, he added.

Malaysia's Digital Economy Blueprint Development Plan sets targets for the contribution of the digital economy to Malaysia's economy. It lays the foundation for the prosperity of digitalization throughout the country. The plan identifies six strategic areas, namely:

  • Digital transformation in the public sector;
  • Increasing economic competitiveness through digitalization;
  • Development of digital infrastructure;
  • Formation of a digital skilled workforce;
  • Creating an inclusive digital society and creating a secure and ethical digital environment.

These areas are supported by 22 strategies, 48 national initiatives and 28 sectoral initiatives. The implementation of this plan is divided into three phases. Stage 1 - from 2021 to 2022, which will strengthen the basics of the use of digital technologies, stage 2 - from 2023 to 2025, which will promote digital transformation and inclusion, and stage 3 - from 2026 to 2030, which, according to the authorities, will make the country a pioneer in the field of digital content and cybersecurity in the regional market.[1]
