2023: Russia has developed a technology to increase mobile bandwidth
On November 13, 2023, Russian specialists from the Engineering Center of the National Research Nuclear University MEPhI (NRNU MEPhI) announced the development of a new technology that allows increasing the bandwidth of mobile networks. The proposed system opens the way to solving the problem of lack of resources in the context of constantly growing traffic and connecting more and more consumers.
The new development is based on the non-orthogonal multiple access (NOMA) concept, which assumes that multiple users having different channel characteristics are served by one base station through the same resource segment. The researchers say that in traditional orthogonal multiple access systems, each subscriber must occupy a separate time and frequency segment, limiting the spectral efficiency of the system. NOMA provides a number of advantages: in addition to increasing network bandwidth, delays are reduced and the allocation of available resources is improved.
NOMA subscribers are multiplexed in the transmitter in the power plane using coding technologies, and in the receiver using sequential interference cancellation algorithms. This approach allows multiple users to work through the same channel without blocking each other.
The NOMA concept is expected to be in demand amid the rapid development of the Internet of Things with its huge number of devices connected to the mobile network. In addition, Russian experts note, NOMA may become one of the key technologies to meet the requirements of 5G + systems. NOMA testing is carried out on the layout of the 5G base station at NRNU MEPhI[1]
