Northern bypass (highway in Omsk)

2024: Design Completion

In September 2024, the government of the Omsk region announced the construction of a new four-lane Northern Bypass highway, which will cost ₽63,25 billion. The highway will become an important part of the transport infrastructure of the region, linking the federal highways Omsk-Tyumen and Omsk-Novosibirsk. This is a major infrastructure project aimed at improving the transport network of the region and unloading the city highways of Omsk. The track is expected to be built by 2028.

According to TASS, the design of the route has been completed, and it has already been submitted for consideration by Glavgosexpertiza. The Governor of the Omsk Region Vitaly Khocenko said that the project will be implemented within the framework of a regional concession signed with Gazprombank. The agreement provides that the concessionaire will allocate almost ₽20 billion for construction, and the rest will be financed from the federal and regional budgets. The construction of the Northern Bypass will solve many transport problems, including reducing the load on city roads and reducing the wear of highways due to the large flow of trucks.

The Northern Bypass highway will have a length of 62.6 km and will become a key transport artery connecting the Omsk region with other regions, such as the Novosibirsk and Tyumen agglomerations. The project also includes the construction of bridges over the Irtysh and Om rivers, as well as more than 10 overpasses. This will not only help improve transport links between regions, but will also contribute to the economic development of the northern part of Omsk by attracting new investments and increasing the volume of construction.

The Governor of the Omsk Region, Alexander Burkov, noted the importance of this project not only for the region, but also for the entire Eastern and Central Siberia. The new road will provide logistics improvements in the face of sanctions pressure and will become part of Russia's strategic transport infrastructure.^[1]
