Plogging

Plogging is a new sports craze that combines exercise and garbage cleaning.

Plogging originated in Sweden, and its name comes from the Swedish term "plocka upp," which translates to "pick up," and from the English "jogging."

Plogging isn't just limited to running: Athletes involved in hiking, cycling, diving and even paddle-surfing have picked up the trend, helping to get rid of debris in the sea, on the beach, in the mountains and on city streets.

The fitness movement was born thanks to Swede Eric Alström, who was determined to clean up his city, and by 2018 it had become a global phenomenon, quickly gaining popularity thanks to various social media groups.

Fitness fanatics also acknowledge the benefits of plogging over a regular run or run: by picking up rubbish, runners should often crouch, which targets the glutes, and this workout can be made even more effective by adding jumping on a climb.

Activists note that plogging is not just for athletes. Simply collecting discarded debris on the way to work or while walking a dog can have a huge impact on the environment.
