1,856,237 Russian citizens entered Georgia, and 1,887,223 Russians left it

The Kommersant newspaper writes that the difference of 30,986 between the number of Russians who left and entered Georgia in 2023 is explained by the fact that in addition to the traditionally high number of Russian tourists, the number of which has increased even more due to the restoration of direct flights between the two countries. The statistics are also influenced by the outflow from Georgia of Russian relocants who moved to permanent residence back in 2022. For them, Georgia is no longer attractive mainly due to the excessive high cost of living in Tbilisi and Batumi, the publication says.

The beginning of the mass return of relocants to Russia became known in November 2023. Then Natalya Danina, chief specialist of the hh.ru for the labor market, head of the client efficiency of the resource, said that a quarter of those who have left are already in the country in search of work. In her opinion, such factors as the deterioration of their economic situation abroad, the fall of the ruble exchange rate and the lack of plans by the Russian authorities to organize another wave of partial mobilization could have influenced the return of the relocants. In addition, this may be due to the establishment of record low unemployment in the country and the growth of salaries offered to successful candidates, the expert added.[3]
