2024: Launching
On February 3, 2024, the Russian Ministry of Defense reported that in Severodvinsk at the Sevmash plant, the Prince Pozharsky submarine cruiser was withdrawn from the boathouse. A new nuclear submarine has been launched, said to be part of Russia's maritime strategic nuclear force.
"Prince Pozharsky" refers to the fourth generation of underwater nuclear submarines. The vessel is equipped with modern strategic missile and torpedo weapon complexes, improved navigation equipment, radio engineering and sonar weapons. The submarine was created as part of the Borey-A project: the cruiser was laid down at JSC PO Sevmash on December 23, 2016. The designer is the St. Petersburg Central Design Bureau of Marine Engineering "Rubin."
It is noted that "Prince Pozharsky" embodied "advanced technological solutions, experience and traditions of domestic underwater shipbuilding." The armament of the submarine cruiser and technical characteristics will allow it to effectively perform all tasks for its intended purpose. The vessel is equipped with Bulava intercontinental ballistic missiles.
As of the beginning of February 2024, three nuclear submarine cruisers of the Borey project (Yuri Dolgoruky, Alexander Nevsky and Vladimir Monomakh) and four nuclear submarines of the Borey-A project (Prince Vladimir, Prince Oleg, Generalissimus Suvorov, Emperor Alexander III). At different stages of construction are the serial nuclear submarine cruisers Dmitry Donskoy and Prince Potemkin[1]
