2022: Russian printing market leaders named

In August 2023, the rating of the largest printing enterprises in Russia by total circulation was published. The report was prepared by the Russian Book Chamber (merged with the Russian State Library, RSL).

In the first place is the Ulyanovsk Press House, which in 2022 released 8215 editions with a total circulation of 50 million copies. The three leaders included the Pareto-Print publishing and printing complex (issued 5239 publications in the amount of 42 million copies) and the Tver Printing Plant of Children's Literature (1832; 40.3 million).

As Kommersant notes in the issue of August 11, 2023, there has been a shortage of printing capacity in Russia for several years. In 2021, it escalated so much that printing houses could strictly dictate the conditions to publishers. After the outbreak of hostilities in Ukraine, the situation worsened: there was an acute shortage of personnel in the book printing sector, serious problems with coated paper, consumables, equipment and spare parts for it due to sanctions. The situation of polygraphists was aggravated by outdated equipment and lack of investment.

This is the quality of production, the availability of the necessary paper, the service provided and the price. According to the practice of this year, we place most of the orders in the Tver printing house.

Market participants note that the leaders were those who work with government orders, primarily with textbooks, while the order for commercial publications is decreasing.
