Private clouds: typical customers

Private "cloud" can bring benefit only if the company reached a certain level of a maturity in the field of IT, defined in itself the list of necessary IT services and their parameters and also the purposes of implementation of private "cloud" - such, for example, as reduction of time and cost of providing IT services, their unification.

Following this logic, first of all private "cloud" can be relevant for the medium-sized and large companies with own services of development and also with internal or external services of operation. These are the companies for which the IT already upon is business assistant, both harmonious work of IT departments and smooth operation of IT services - critical components of work of all organization in general. To it service providers, telecom operators, banks and insurance companies, retail chain stores, in some cases - large industrial enterprises, as a rule, belong.

Specific initiators of implementation of private "clouds", most often, are IT departments which are engaged in operation, development and testing. Actually, private "clouds" are at the moment used in the Russian market, generally as the platforms for test environments allowing to accelerate development process of new applications, services, rates and so forth.

The concept of a private cloud is suitable for implementation at most the modern enterprises, enough mature seriously to think of a strategic role of IT in the business. The private cloud will precisely bring benefit to financial structures, the companies of the telecom industry for which the IT service is one of the major assets and to which it is vital to provide transparency of costs for IT. The second category — the organizations which are going to become providers of cloud services for them entry into the public market is impossible without preliminary running in of the services on a private cloud.

Example from area of a telecom – an output to the market of a new tariff plan from the operator. Here it is important to be in time either before a season, or to be ahead of competitors by a step. Respectively, construction of the new data center or retrofitting which is already existing the additional hardware taking into account long terms of delivery – it is hardly possible to consider suitable option. Usually telecom operators can calculate an economic benefit from acceleration of input of rates or new services. And these calculations will be not for benefit of classical infrastructure.

For insurance company integrators provide only hypothetical scenarios in Russia so far. For example, the private cloud can interest insurance company which enters the regional market, using a franchize. From their devices to key business applications the service model of private "cloud" is suitable for operational staffing of agents and providing access as well as possible. Even if business in the region will show negative dynamics and it should be contracted, expenses will not be as global, as in case of creation of classical infrastructure.

Under certain conditions creation of a frequent cloud can be effective in the organizations with big geographically distributed structure when the staff of the enterprise in remote small branch or mobile employees is connected to a system from any available device (the thin client or the mobile device) and get access to the virtual machine in data center. By the way, quite often such model of a private cloud finds application in a public sector.

Distribution of clients between private and public clouds on the Microsoft Azure platform

And here is how distribution of clients between private and public clouds on the example of the Azure platform draws Microsoft. Apparently from the provided scheme, state companies most gravitate to private clouds as well as the enterprises of the enterprise level with a large number of servers. For small business public clouds - the most obvious choice. And only the average size of the company can get comparable advantages from private or public clouds therefore among them the dispersion of "opinions" is most high.

At the same time it is possible to speak also about the one to whom the private cloud model does not suit: to small business, the companies with branched filial infrastructure (in the absence of certain conditions and stable communication channels), also the cloud will not bring benefit to consumers of high-performance computing, the highly specialized companies using one-two applications.

The private cloud is definitely not necessary for those who are not going to change something in the IT infrastructure or for some reason or other operate specific monolithic unchangeable solutions with the predetermined profile of loading and a permanent circle of users. Or that who is already ready to live in a public cloud.
