Recovery from COVID-19
Since the beginning of 2021, doctors no longer consider COVID-19 a disease that affects only the respiratory system. According to scientists, getting into the body, the virus interacts with receptors in many other organs and systems. Therefore, it is important not only to cure the disease, but also to assess the health effects of the virus as a whole. And if necessary, contact a specialized specialist for rehabilitation.

In-depth medical examination
Since July 1, 2021, a program of in-depth medical examination after COVID-19 has been launched in Russia. Patients affected by coronavirus were given the opportunity to study their state of health in more detail and assess the consequences of the disease, if any. This will allow timely identification of possible complications, which is especially important for patients who have suffered a severe coronavirus infection.
Unfortunately, at this time in most Russian regions there is an increase in the incidence. The third round of the pandemic leads to an overload of the health system, as a result of which patients may face various difficulties when trying to undergo medical examination: from a long wait to a failure to record. How to realize the right to medical examination, says Sergey Shkitin, an expert at the All-Russian Union of Insurers.
- Who can undergo in-depth medical examination?
First of all, citizens with chronic diseases who have a moderate or severe coronavirus will be called for examinations. You can undergo an in-depth medical examination 60 days after such as the patient suffered from COVID-19. If there is no data on the disease, then medical examination can be carried out at the initiative of a citizen.
- What is included in the medical examination plan?
In-depth medical examination is carried out in 2 stages. The first stage is aimed at diagnosing respiratory function and detecting the most frequent disorders. It includes a mandatory examination by a therapist or general practitioner, as well as several diagnostic procedures.
Firstly, this is a measurement of saturation (oxygen saturation blood) at rest, as well as a test with 6-minute walking. The test is carried out if there are complaints of shortness of breath, swelling, which appeared for the first time or became more intense.
Secondly, the patient undergoes spirometry or spirography to test lung function.
Thirdly, these are general and biochemical blood tests, as well as the determination of the marker of thrombosis - D-dimer.
X-rays of chest organs are necessary if not performed earlier within a year.
If at the first stage any complications were identified, the patient is invited to the second stage, which includes the following procedures: Echocardiography is carried out in the case of a resting saturation rate of 94 percent inclusive and lower, as well as according to the results of a test with 6-minute walking.
Computed tomography of the lungs is necessary, in the case of a resting saturation rate of 94 percent inclusive and lower, as well as according to the results of a test with 6-minute walking.
Duplex scanning of lower extremity veins. It is carried out in the presence of indications based on the results of determining the concentration of D-dimer in the blood.
"Is all this free?"
Absolutely. Medical examination is included in the compulsory medical insurance program (compulsory medical insurance), and accordingly is free for a citizen who has a compulsory medical insurance policy. If you have lost the policy, you can contact your insurance company's office to issue a new policy. While it will be issued, you will be given a temporary certificate, which will need to be shown in the clinic when registering for a medical examination.
If you are faced with financial requirements or unwillingness to provide the service you need from medical institutions, then we recommend contacting your insurance medical organization (SMO). The insurance representative will address you where and how you can get the medical service you need in a timely manner. The number of your insurance medical organization can be viewed on the compulsory medical insurance policy or on the SMO website on the Internet.
- Where can you go through in-depth medical examination?
You can sign up for an in-depth medical examination in a clinic at the place of residence or on the portal of State Services. If there is no in-depth medical examination in your area, you can contact the insurance representative at the same phone number. The functions of insurance representatives include informing and informing insured persons when providing them with medical care, including individual informing insured persons about the need to undergo preventive measures.

2021: Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation: Women who have undergone COVID-19 need dispensary supervision
At the end of January 2021, the Ministry of Health of Russia presented the third version of the methodological recommendations of the organization of medical care for pregnant women, women in labor and newborns with coronavirus (COVID-19) infection. In the new edition, a section appeared on the reproductive health of sick women.
It is not currently known what long-term effects on women's reproductive health may be associated with undergoing COVID-19. In this regard, all women who have undergone COVID-19, especially in severe form, should be assigned to the high-risk group for the development of complications and undergo closer dispensary supervision within 1 year after inpatient treatment for COVID-19, the document says. |
The Ministry of Health also recommends that women plan a pregnancy no earlier than three months after a coronavirus infection due to the risk of complications and the effect on the fetus of the drugs used in the treatment.
The department notes that there are no published evidence-based recommendations for the management of women who have undergone coronavirus by the end of January 2021. At the same time, the disease can affect the reproductive system due to the "toxic effects of the drugs used, the length of hospitalization in the intensive care unit and intensive care, and the decompensation of comorbid chronic diseases."
The issue has not yet been completely resolved, but at the same time we know that at the moment all world recommendations say that after a coronavirus infection, at least three months cannot be a sperm donor and pregnancy is undesirable. If it even comes, then it is necessary to somehow plan this situation, because there really is a process, "said Alexander Gorelov, representative of the Central Research Institute of Epidemiology of Rospotrebov.[1] |

Rehabilitation of patients with severe Covid-19 course by compulsory medical insurance policy
By December 2020, over 2 million cases of Covid-19 infection were recorded in Russia. In every tenth, the disease is severe and fraught with complications. How to help the body recover from the illness and what types of rehabilitation are available to covid patients under the compulsory medical insurance policy, said Sergey Shkitin, an expert at the All-Russian Union of Insurers.
According to the temporary methodological recommendations for the prevention and treatment of coronavirus infection of the Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation (dated October 26, 2020), the following need rehabilitation:
- Covid-19 patients who underwent prolonged IVL (2-5 weeks);
- in some cases, patients who have been given a number of special high-tech treatments for a long time, for example, artificial lung ventilation (IVL);
- other patients (based on clinical indications, instrumental and laboratory results).
"However, it is necessary to take into account," notes Sergey Shkitin, "that there are contraindications for rehabilitation. In any case, the indications are determined by the medical organization at the place of medical care (the attending physician, a consultation or a medical commission). " |
Rehabilitation of patients who have undergone a severe course of coronavirus infection is carried out in three stages:
Stage 1: in the hospital when providing specialized medical care during hospitalization (in the intensive care unit and in the therapeutic unit); Stage 2: in the conditions of a round-the-clock medical rehabilitation department; Stage 3: in the conditions of the medical rehabilitation department of a day hospital or polyclinic.
The recommended duration of rehabilitation programmes is from 6 to 12 weeks. If necessary, by decision of the attending doctor, the rehabilitation course should be repeated after a year.
In the context of an unfavorable epidemiological situation, methodological recommendations, by decision of the attending doctor, at the third stage, provide for the possibility of rehabilitation at home without visiting a medical organization.
Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation approved the rules for the rehabilitation of patients after COVID-19
At the end of July 2020, the Ministry of Health of Russia approved the rules for the rehabilitation of patients after coronavirus. Recovery Techniques
Proper breathing: recovering from infections and COVID-19
Our health and general condition depend on breathing, although we do not always understand this - only in those situations when diseases like pneumonia or Covid-19 occur. But practice shows that it is right breathing and strong lungs that give our immunity serious bonuses.
What exercises to do to increase immunity both in ordinary life and during rehabilitation after illness? Maxim Novikov, general practitioner, therapist, pulmonologist of Medicine JSC (clinic of Academician Roitberg) shared his recommendations in July 2020:
You can make a specific complex yourself, alternating these exercises:
- Different types of breathing. It is understood that breathing can be done by breasts, abdomen or mixed method. A good block for the complex is to alternate such breathing options (several times each) in 3 approaches.
- Holding your breath. This is a very useful tool. Slow breathing, delay, exhalation - this is the basis of the exercise. In the classic exercise, all stages are 2-4-4 seconds, but you can gradually increase the time in your health.
- Breathing with head movements. The options are: inhale the movement of the head left-right, as well as inhale when raising the head and exhale when lowering it. An example of a scheme: slowly inhale and at the same time raise your head, make a small delay, lower your head and simultaneously exhale.
- Breathing with hand movements. For example, taking a breath while raising hands and exhaling when they return to their original position. Or inhale when throwing hands at the head and exhale when returning them in front of you.
Based on these basic blocks, you can make breathing complexes yourself. Example: 4 approaches with alternating breathing type, 4 approaches with holding breathing, 3 approaches with raising and lowering the head, 3 approaches with raising and lowering the hands. If the condition is excellent, you can repeat this complex 2 more times.
The advantage of forming your own complex of exercises is that you can alternate them in mood and condition, and such gymnastics will never get tired.
If you perform exercises regularly, then they will not only help the lungs recover from infections and pneumonia, but also improve general well-being, quality of sleep and rest, give more energy and cheer.
