2015: Growth by 82%
In May 2016, IHS Technology analysts published the results of a study of the global Software Defined Networking (SDN) market used in companies and data centers.
According to experts, sales of SDN solutions (switches, controllers, SD-WAN equipment, control and control systems) in 2015 reached $1.4 billion, an increase of 82% compared to 2014.
New options for using SDN are still emerging, and 2015 was no exception in this regard, since the SD-WAN market was then born. Although its volume remains small, many startups, manufacturers of traditional WAN channel optimization solutions and network vendors rush there, and we predict revenue from SD-WAN to reach $1.3 billion by 2020, "said Cliff Grossner, senior director of market research for data centers, cloud computing and SDN company IHS Technology. |
In their research, analysts drew attention to the growing popularity of SDN-supporting switches and controllers, which are interested in novice players, clean SDN startups and traditional network equipment manufacturers.
According to Cliff Grossner, the launch of new SDN projects and an increase in the volume of existing ones will continue in 2016. Special attention is paid to Open Source class solutions.
With the SDN market's focus on open source software and open-specification hardware, the number of Open Source-based network solutions deployed will increase several times. The maturity of open source network software will spur companies to combine components into a single ecosystem, IHS Technology said in a study.[1]
