2020: NtechLab and BIT found out how the portrait of a shoplifter changed during the quarantine

On April 29, 2020 the companies BIT also NtechLab reported that in March-April, 2020 the social and demographic list of shoplifter (thieves of the small goods) attempting upon commission of thefts in food trade networks changed. In particular, the number of the attempts at theft made by aged people sharply increased 30 years are more senior.

As it was reported, for obtaining statistics for March-April, 2020 more than 40,000 episodes of attempts at theft in more, than 300 sales points of food products in different regions of Russia were analyzed. By preparation of statistics the possibility of an algorithm NtechLab to tell its belonging to a certain age group from a human face was involved.

If during the dokarantinny period more than 60% of attempts of plunder were connected with age categories to 30 years, in March-April, 2020 the share of shoplifter of this age fell up to 33%. More than 61% of incidents during this period were connected with aged people of 30 years and is more senior. Most often it is men (their about 62% of all revealed). Among goods of shoplifter most attracted (in decreasing order): alcoholic drinks (including beer), bakery products, confectionery, sausage and meat products.

Change of age categories among shoplifter interested us, and we conducted additional survey among owners of outlets with the purpose to find out more how during the quarantine the portrait of a shoplifter changed. Results polls are unfavourable: if earlier the most part of swindlers was made by the youth often committing thefts for the sake of bravado, then for April, 2020 among "pilferers" many people of a respectable type at the age of 35-50 years appeared. Perhaps, are those whom employers sent on an unpaid leave. Medical masks were put on more than 55% of shoplifter, noted in BIT. However thanks to application of an algorithm of face recognition of NtechLab, one of technology features of which the possibility of determination of the person even with strong percent of overlapping is, the increased control at their repeated emergence in shop is also possible to calculate and provide such thieves.
