System implementation of "M-3.ERP" in NPO Iskra

The project of complex automation of NPO Iskra is one of examples of full implementations of domestic developments in the field of ERP at the Russian engineering enterprises. According to project participants, the completeness of functionality of the solution "M-3.ERP" and also a possibility of direct cooperation of the customer with developer company provided it advantage in comparison with foreign ERP systems.

Information on the customer

The enterprise was founded as SKB-172 in December, 1955 for development and creation of samples of rocketry. Now it is open joint stock company "Iskra scientific and production association. The order of the Government of the Russian Federation since July, 1998 the enterprise has the status of Federal research and production center.
NPO Iskra locates highly intellectual and highly skilled personnel potential, incorporates design office, experimental plant, computer center, experimental base for carrying out research and development, production of new types of products on the basis of advanced technologies using modern industrial equipment, means of tests and measurements.

Main types of products of NGO are engines and power stations on solid fuel; gas turbine equipment (gas-distributing units, gas turbine power plants, centrifugal compressors) and also oil and gas equipment and products of all-technical appointment. The nature of production – "under the order". The number of staff of the enterprise – 3000 people.

ERP system choice

In the course of preparation for the choice of the software solution by specialists of NPO Iskra practically all possible sources of information – the Internet, advertizing booklets, specialized magazines, the relevant information from other enterprises of the region, etc. were used. On the basis of collected data the initial list of ERP systems which entered was made: SAP R/3 (now mySAP ERP), BAAN (now Infor ERP LN), "System "M-3.ERP", "Alfa System", "Galaktika ERP". As a result, by results a choice was made for benefit of the Russian development - "The integrated M-3.ERP enterprise management system".

According to project participants, it is possible to carry the following to advantages which influenced the choice by the customer of the system developed by the company "KST - "M-3". First of all, the Russian origin of the ERP system is noted. According to customer company, the domestic systems are, first, more flexible, than foreign developments, secondly, they completely consider the Russian specifics, and, at last, use of the domestic solution gives the chance to communicate directly with the developer that is very important for ensuring permanent development of the used solution.

Also the completeness of functionality and a scaling option of a system was important for the customer. Besides, it was important for customer representatives that directly participated in implementation both developer firm, and IT department of the enterprise. It, according to them, allows to provide, on the one hand, better training and  consultations of IT specialists of the customer, operational completion of a system, and on the other hand – to reduce dependence on the developer. Also the low cost of a system in comparison with the western analogs influenced the choice.

Results of Implementation

Now the following blocks are implemented and brought into commercial operation:
1.  Personnel management.
2.  Management of finance.
3.  Budgeting: BCF (budget of cash flow) and income and expense budget (income and expenditure budget) of primary activity.
4.  Accounting of material values in OMTS.

In trial operation there are functional units: Accounting, Production management, Project management. In the short term full translation of a complete circuit of ERP in commercial operation is expected. The number of real users of a system makes 200 today.

Use of the M-CALS technology developed based on the M-3.ERP complex allowed to integrate within the project the software products of other developers which are already implemented at the enterprise and used and the M-3 system in a uniform complex. Integration with the PDM system (electronic archive of design documentation) in which structures of products and their change are conducted was executed. Besides, a new ERP system was temporarily integrated with the product "1C: Enterprise" and several Automated workplaces of own development of IT service of the customer that was made for the purpose of preserving of accumulated information and an opportunity for work at the intermediate stage in several systems.
