2024: The volume of the pay TV market in Kazakhstan for the year increased by 4%, the number of subscribers - up to 2 million
In 2024, expenses on the pay television market in Kazakhstan reached 57.3 billion tenge, or about $112.65 million (at the exchange rate as of May 30, 2025). This is 4% more compared to the previous year, when the costs were estimated at 55.1 billion tenge. Such data are provided in the review of J'son & Partners Consulting, which TAdviser got acquainted with at the end of May 2025.
Analysts are considering various types of pay-TV. These are cable television (analog and digital), satellite systems, IP television, as well as OTT technology (delivery of video signal from the content provider to the user's device over data networks). In the study, all subscribers are divided into these segments and counted only once to exclude re-billing.
As of the end of 2024, J'son & Partners Consulting estimates the total subscriber base of paid television in the Republic of Kazakhstan at 2.058 million users. Compared to 2023, when there were 2.072 million subscribers, the figure decreased by 0.7%. The peak value was recorded in 2022, when the number of pay-TV subscribers was at the level of 2.1 million. Against the background of a decrease in the subscriber base, the positive dynamics of revenue was achieved solely due to an increase in prices for services.
The report also said that the penetration of pay-TV in Kazakhstan is gradually decreasing. If in 2022 the value exceeded 36%, then in 2024 it turned out to be less than 35%.
After 2024, the size of the subscriber base of pay TV in the Republic of Kazakhstan will practically not change and will amount to about 2.1 million. With constant population growth and, as a result, the number of households, the penetration of services in the country will continue to smoothly decline to 33%, J'son & Partners Consulting predicts[1]. |
