2021: Saudi Arabia began to build "the linear city" 170 km long without cars and roads
In the middle of January, 2021 Saudi Arabia started implementation of the ambitious plan and began construction of "the linear city" with zero emission of carbon 170 km long. Construction of the futuristic megalopolis without cars and roads should cost the country $500 billion.
The project startup of The Line was announced by the crown prince Muhammad bin Salman. The project is included into the strategy of "Neom" directed to diversification of economy of Saudi Arabia and failure from oil dependence. It is supposed that one million inhabitants from around the world will live in the new city, and transport will pass underground.
Throughout all history of mankind of the city were under construction for protection of the citizens. But after industrial revolution of the city began to give preference to machines, machines and factories, but not people, - the crown prince told. - Why we should sacrifice the nature for the sake of development? Why seven million people should die annually because of environmental pollution? |
The crown prince said that for the solution of these problems the normal cities need to be transformed to futuristic and submitted the The Line project focused on ecology. This city consists of three levels, upper of which is above the ground and is deprived of machines and routes, and two other levels are located underground and are responsible for infrastructure and transport. By 2030 in the city will be able to live to one million people, the project will create up to 380 million jobs and will be able to enter up to $48 billion to national economy.
The Line developers claim that all daily services will be located in five minutes walk from houses, and the trip from one area to another will take no more than 20 minutes. In the city will also use AI that will allow to predict behavior of inhabitants and "improve everyday life". However, experts are not sure that the plan is realistic.[1]
