Growth in sales of tonometers in Russia by 12.1% to 13.3 billion

The retail market for tonometers in Russia in 2024 reached ₽13,3 billion in retail prices, including VAT. Ruble dynamics compared to 2023 amounted to 12.1%, and natural consumption increased by 13.6%. This became known at the end of March 2025.

According to RNC Pharma, over the past 2024, almost 6.8 million tonometers were sold in Russian retail. This is evidenced by the data of the database "Audit of retail sales of medical equipment in Russia (total sell out)." During 2024, the demand for devices showed clear peaks in March and December. After the March surge, the volume of sales began to decline, and in the summer minimal consumption was recorded - in June, Russians purchased only 470 thousand devices worth ₽935 million.

By the beginning of autumn 2024, sales increased again, and demand reached its peak values in December - this month almost 741 thousand pieces of devices worth ₽1,4 billion were sold in retail. After traditionally low demand in January 2025, growth was again observed in February - over 729 thousand devices worth ₽1,4 billion were sold.

In the retail market of tonometers in 2024, there were 55 brands, but the first three provided more than 72% of ruble sales. The leader in the category is the products of the Japanese brand Omron with a market share of 28.4%, the second position of the rating with a comparable share is occupied by products "Hey End Di" (28.3%). The Swiss BiVell closes the top three (15.7%).

In 2024, two new brands entered the Russian market: Pekam and Serza, representing the Chinese manufacturers Shenzhen Pekam and Joytek Helskea, respectively.

In December 2024, 19.8 million packages of drugs for the treatment of hypertension were sold in the amount of ₽8,4 billion - this is the maximum sales volume recorded during the year in both monetary and physical terms.[1]

A patch is presented that is not inferior to the tonometer in the accuracy of pressure measurement

In late November 2024, researchers at the University of California, San Diego, introduced an ultrasound patch for continuous blood pressure monitoring. The device became the first wearable ultrasound blood pressure sensor to undergo rigorous and comprehensive clinical testing in more than 100 patients. Read more here.

2023: Sales of blood pressure instruments rise 30% to 6.1 million tonometers

At the end of 2023, approximately 6.1 million tonometers were sold in Russia. This is 30% more than the result for the previous year, when the market size was estimated at about 4.4 million units. Such data at the end of February 2024 are given in a study by RNC Pharma.

According to the Izvestia newspaper, in monetary terms, sales of devices for measuring blood pressure in 2023 amounted to about 12 billion rubles. For comparison: a year earlier, the volume of the industry was estimated at 10.8 billion rubles. Thus, growth was demonstrated at the level of 11%.

Approximately 6.1 million tonometers were sold in Russia

The report says that online sales of tonometers in Russia in 2023 more than doubled - from 890 thousand units to 2.2 million. Revenue from the sale of these devices reached almost 3 billion rubles, which is twice the result of the previous year. In offline channels, the dynamics is not so significant: sales on an annualized basis increased from 3.8 million to 3.9 million units. At the same time, the revenue of such sellers decreased by almost 200 million rubles - from 9.2 billion to 9 billion rubles.

Analysts associate the growth in demand for devices for measuring blood pressure with a more responsible attitude of Russians to their health. In addition, the high demand for tonometers can be explained by the consequences of the COVID-19 pandemic, the aging population and the increase in the incidence of cardiovascular diseases. Demand is also affected by weather conditions, which affect the risk of pressure surges. Forecaster of the prognostic center "Meteo" Alexander Ilyin says that as of the beginning of 2024, there is a fairly high atmospheric pressure. Its differences can be reflected in people who are not in good health, and provoke an increase in demand for tonometers. Viktor Lishin, a therapist at the Miracle Doctor multidisciplinary medical clinic, adds that mainly children and people with chronic diseases or a weak cardiovascular system respond to a change in weather conditions.[2]
