Tumor Ablation Equipment (Global Market)

.

Main articles:

Ablation is the local destruction of a tumor without removing it. The procedure is used in the presence of several small tumors that cannot be surgically removed. Ablation techniques do not always allow you to completely get rid of cancer, but increase the chances of surviving in cancer patients.

2019: Sales growth to $1.1 billion

At the end of March 2020, Grand View Research published a report on sales of tumor ablation equipment. Experts estimated the volume of this market at $1.1 billion at the end of 2019.

According to the study, radio frequency ablation has become the most commonly used technique (more than 30%), since it can be effectively used in solid tumors. The main market for sales of ablative equipment was the United States due to factors such as the increase in cancer prevalence, high purchasing power parity, government support for quality health care and affordable reimbursement.

The increase in cancer incidence and high demand for effective treatment options are the main factors influencing the market. Minimally invasive procedures, including tumor ablation, provide benefits such as rapid recovery, patient comfort, and lower time costs. Integration of tumor removal devices with effective imaging techniques such as ultrasound, MRI and CT scans is expected to revolutionize ablation procedures performed in an outpatient setting. This approach would significantly reduce patient costs, including spending on hospital stays.

Government initiatives such as screening programs, awareness campaigns, and cancer control schemes increase the number of cases diagnosed. Such initiatives increase the need for early cancer treatment, thereby contributing to demand for ablative therapy devices.

In addition, the growing demand for advanced medical technologies, their advantages over standard treatment regimens, and integration with imaging methods contribute to increased demand for tumor ablative removal devices.[1]

2016: Up to $406 million

In August 2016, the analytical company Mordor Intelligence published the results of a study of the global market for tumor ablation equipment. Its volume, according to experts, will double by 2021.

Analysts expect that in 2016, sales of solutions used for tumor ablation will be measured at $406 million. In the next five years, the market will grow by an average of 13.5% annually and reach $765 million by 2021.

Medtronic and Boston Scientific named as fast-growing tumor ablation equipment manufacturers

The following companies are named the largest manufacturers of tumor ablation devices at Mordor Intelligence:

The researchers say Medtronic and Boston Scientific Corporation will be able to show strong market growth in 2016-2021.

Specialists distinguish several types of ablation depending on the nature of the disrupting agent (radio frequency and microwave ablation, cryosurgery), the type of procedures (surgical, laparoscopic and percutaneous ablation) and treatment organs (liver, lungs, kidneys).

Radio frequency ablation (thermal destruction) occupies a significant market share due to the highly directed impact and lack of damage to neighboring cells, but surgical procedures are most often carried out (as of August 2016).

The largest market for tumor ablation equipment in 2015 was North America, which accounted for more than 30% of sales due to factors such as rising cancer prevalence and developed health infrastructure in the region.[2]
