Unicode
Unicode is a coding standard (representations) of characters of all national alphabets. This standard uses 16-bit coding of characters (unlike 8-bit, accepted in the ASCII standard). Use for coding of 16 bits allows to define 65536 different characters that is sufficient for all existing languages, mathematical characters and other signs. Unicode has indexes for all alphabetic languages and the majority of hieroglyphs of the Chinese and Japanese languages. The first 256 indexes it is used for compatibility with the ASCII standard.
