Name problem

According to the offer of an IEC, the name "Zettabyte" is commonly accepted, but it is incorrect as the prefix zetta-means multiplication on 10^21. For 2^70 the binary prefix zebi-is correct.

Calculation

One zettabyte is equal to one sekstillion of bytes or one trillion gigabytes.

For example, the Volume of traffic is 1.6 zettabyte is:

  • 22 trillion hours of stream music;
  • 5 trillion watch of business web conferences with webcams;
  • 1.6 trillion hours of on-line video flows of high resolution (HD).

Interesting Facts

The total amount of the digital information created by mankind in 2006 was 0.16 Zettabyte, at the beginning of 2010 volume equaled to 1.2 zettabytes.

According to a research of ICANN company, the total amount of all existing digital information on the globe, beginning from the user pictures on personal computers and finishing with full-length HD movies in 2011 makes 2.56 zettabytes, or, speaking to terms "clear" to most of people, 2.5 billion terabytes.

Note

1.8 Zettabyte of data it will be created in 2011.

Forecast of Cisco: The 966th exabyte of traffic by 2015
