2025: Commissioning Europe's largest flax processing plant
In the Azov district of the Rostov region, a flax processing and flax oil production plant with a total value of ₽3 billion was commissioned, which became the largest enterprise of this profile in Europe with a processing capacity of about 150 thousand tons of flax annually and a planned production volume of 50-55 thousand tons of flax press oil and 90 thousand tons of flax cake. This was announced by Igor Burakov, Director General of the Agency for Investment Development of the Rostov Region, on August 6, 2025.
According to RBC, the company began processing raw materials in the commissioning mode and plans to export at least 70% of finished products to China, Turkey and the Middle East, which will significantly increase the added value of Russian flax within the country.
The project is being implemented by ASVA from the Aston group of companies, which received revenues of over ₽2,5 billion and a net profit of ₽89,4 million in 2024. The company is located in the Novoaleksandrovsky industrial park and is equipped with its own elevator complex for receiving various types of vehicles.
Burakov noted that earlier in Russia no one was engaged in the processing of flax on a similar scale. Only about 10% of the flax crop is processed in the country, while the rest is exported as raw materials.
China,, and Belgium Poland others states purchase Russian flax as raw materials to create higher value-added products in their territories. The new large production will change the export structure and increase the added value within Russia, contributing to the development of domestic deep processing of agricultural raw materials.
The plant will purchase raw materials from local farmers in the Rostov region, as well as from manufacturers from the Stavropol Territory, the Volgograd Region and, if necessary, from farmers in the Volga region and the Southern Urals. The geographical location of the enterprise in the Azov region provides proximity to port facilities for export operations.[1]
