2025: Criminal case on charges of theft of Kaspersky Lab technologies
Kaspersky Lab has accused a rival information security software developer, AVSoft, of illegally using its software modules to detect malicious code. On this fact, law enforcement agencies opened a criminal case, the press service of Kaspersky Lab reported in March 2025.
According to Rusbeis, Kaspersky Lab claims that in the fall of 2024 the company became aware of the illegal use of AVSoft software modules KLMS and KLFS in its own commercial products. After conducting an internal analysis that confirmed the fact of the violation, Kaspersky Lab appealed to law enforcement agencies at the end of 2024, after which a criminal case was initiated.
KasperskyA representative of Kaspersky Lab said that at the moment law enforcement agencies are conducting investigative actions, and the preliminary investigation has not yet been completed.
In March 2025, as previously reported by the SecAtor telegram channel, AVSoft was searched. According to the channel, AVSoft has included antivirus engines from Kaspersky Lab, Dr.Web and a number of other manufacturers in its Athena product for subsequent sale at prices below market prices, without notifying copyright holders.
AB Soft LLC was registered in 2010. According to data from the RusProfile database, the sole owner of the company by April 2025 is Anton Pavlovich Chukhnov. According to the company's official website, AVSoft is developing seven projects of various directions, including the Bond corporate messenger, Kairos spam and phishing protection system, Veil operating system camouflage, Loki distributed false targets system, Crimlab computer forensic laboratory and Palitra corporate software management program. The company's flagship product is the Athena antivirus multiscaner.[1]
