All-Alay Islamic Party (PAS) - for 2022, one of the most conservative organizations in Malaysia.
The party advocates careful enforcement of Islamic laws, banning the sale of alcohol in the Malaysian capital, as well as the abolition of music concerts (for example, bands such as Linkin Park, Arctic Monkeys and others). The head of the All-Alay Islamic Party several times announced the secondary role of non-Muslims in the political field. Also, in his opinion, Malaysians who vote for other parties will certainly "go to hell."
History
2022: Parliamentary election win
On November 19, 2022, general elections were held in Malaysia, in which the composition of the new 15th parliament of the country was elected. Most of the seats in one of the coalitions - Perikatan Nasional - were won by the All-Alay Islamic Party (PAS).
Many Malaysians are suspicious of the All-Alay Islamic Party. They suggest that its ultimate goal is to create an Islamic state from Malaysia, which few Malaysian citizens want. After the election, local news was full of headlines that the country would now look like Afghanistan. Users on Twitter resented and called for an answer to the question "Do you want like in Kabul?" of all those who voted for PAS.
Although political Islam has many opponents, there are also many associates. Amid political and economic instability, more Malaysians see salvation in religion.
"I think we need a government that will choose a political course based on Islam. Given the uncertain state of the country that is observed now, we want our leaders to be religious scientists, "said one of the voters of the All-Alay Islamic Party.
The role of religious conservatism in society is strengthened not only in Malaysia. For example, in a neighboring country, Indonesia, on December 6, a draft new criminal code was adopted. Among the provisions of the new document are bans on sex outside marriage, on cohabitation between unmarried couples, as well as on the promotion of abortion among people who have not experienced violence.
The situation is heated by the fact that the activity of terrorist Muslim groups is intensifying in the region in parallel - in particular, the activities of members of the Islamic State, distributing propaganda materials both in Malaysia and Indonesia, are gaining momentum, the Rybar channel noted.
2021: Congratulating the Taliban on coming to power in Afghanistan
In August 2021, the party leadership congratulated the Taliban on coming to power in Afghanistan. Since then, there have been repeated calls for a close relationship between Malaysia and the new government in Kabul as quickly as possible.
