In 1959 it was known as All-Union correspondence financial and economic institute

In 2001 VZFEI took the 7th place in the rating of economic universities across Russia at the end of 2000. By the order of the Government of the Russian Federation of November 22, 2011 No. 2101-r VZFEI it is reorganized by accession to Financial University under the Government of the Russian Federation (earlier Financial academy). Had branches in the cities: Arkhangelsk, Barnaul, Bryansk, Vladimir, Volgograd, Voronezh, Kaluga, Kirov, Krasnodar, Kursk, Lipetsk, Novorossiysk, Omsk, Oryol, Penza, Smolensk, Tula, Ufa, Chelyabinsk, Yaroslavl.

The All-Russian Financial Correspondence Institution - is founded on May 14, 1930 under the name the Central correspondence institute of financial and economic sciences. Later, after merge to other universities, the All-Union correspondence financial and economic institute received the name.

The institute trained over 350 thousand specialists: scientists; heads of the financial and bank systems; leading economists and chief accountants; heads of different control links national economy. Teachers of institute participated in work of the central bodies of authority and management on preparation of legal acts and regulating documents, in carrying out expert evaluations of the prepared projects and economic calculations.
