2022: Global Failure
In early April 2022, it became known that American Express faced interruptions in the operation of its network, which caused problems around the world for customers trying to make payments.
Customers in the UK, Europe and the USA reported that they could not use the company's website, mobile applications and a two-stage verification system.
The company did not provide details about what caused the failures, but said in a statement: "We faced a system problem that led to some American Express members not being able to access American Express products and services through the website and mobile application."
Customers may also experience longer than usual waiting times to speak to a service specialist. We are working to solve these problems and apologize to our customers for the inconvenience caused. |
Interruptions in work were not provoked by any cyber incident, and most of the affected services were restored by the end of the day in London, although some customers may continue to experience problems, a person familiar with the situation said.
According to Downdetector, which collects user messages about website problems, British customers began reporting malfunctions in the early hours of Friday April 1, with half of the complaints related to the Amex application. US customers also reported problems.
Interruptions in the site are a setback for Amex, which at the beginning of 2022 predicted a good year. In January, the group said that active costs throughout its payment network indicate that its customers are adapting to the "reality of the pandemic."
On April 1, 2022, other companies were forced to respond to complaints on social networks from customers who could not use their Amex bank cards.[1]
