2022: Workflow shutdown due to cyber attack

On December 4, 2022, the Ministry health care France disclosed that a hospital complex in Versailles, not far from, was subjected to a hacker attack. As a Paris result of the hack, the medical institution was forced to suspend work and redirect some of the patients to other hospitals.

Cybercriminals carried out an attack on the center, which includes Andre Mignot Hospital, Risho Hospital and Despagne Nursing Home. The Regional Health Agency (ARS) said that the André Mignot Hospital has canceled operations, but is doing everything possible to ensure that patient admission and consultation services continue. At the same time, telephone communication, the Internet and all computer systems are disabled. This is necessary in order to minimize damage and prevent the leakage of personal data of both patients and employees of medical institutions.

Apparently, the hospital complex in Versailles was attacked by a ransomware program. The fact is that the attackers demanded a ransom for restoring access to the computer infrastructure, the amount of which was not specified. But in France, government agencies never transfer money to cybercriminals, as the law prohibits them from doing so. Therefore, in this case, the demands of the attackers were ignored. At the same time, it says that the cyber attack led to a "complete reorganization" of the daily operation of the hospital complex.

Experts emphasize that in France, the health care system is attacked daily, but the vast majority of hacking attempts are prevented. For example, in August 2022, the Corbeil-Essonne hospital on the outskirts of Paris, which provides medical care to almost 700,000 residents, was attacked by a hacker. The ransom that attackers demand during such attacks amounts to millions of US dollars.^[1]
