2020: Creation of the first digital bank in Uzbekistan
In March, 2020 Committee on banking supervision of the Central bank of Uzbekistan made the decision on issue of preliminary permission to creation of digital bank Anor bank — the first in the country.
According to the press service of the regulator, preliminary permission to creation of bank is given for up to six months. During this period founders should take the adequate organizational and technical measures and create the authorized capital of bank for obtaining the license for implementation of banking activity.
The bank in the form of joint-stock company will be digital and will be located in Tashkent. The Central Bank did not begin to reveal founders of bank. According to Telegram channel of Bankers.uz which wrote on March 4, 2020 that in Uzbekistan Anor Bank will appear soon, founders of new bank are natives of board of one of large private banks of the country
According to regulations on registration and licensing of banks in Uzbekistan, digital banking is the bank or its structural division providing services of remote banking using the innovative banking technologies. Digital bank — in fact bank without departments which are replaced by the staff of bank or outsourcing call center and also courier service or partner offline network.
According to new edition of the law "About Banks and Banking Activity", by March, 2020 the minimum amount of authorized capital of banks in Uzbekistan is 100 billion sum ($10.5 million). In the country there are 30 banks. From them five state, 13 — in the form of the joint-stock company, six private banks, five banks with participation of the foreign capital and one foreign bank (Tenge-bank, Kazakhstan).
In January, 2020 the Central Bank issued to the Georgian TBC Bank preliminary permission to opening of bank in Tashkent. TBC Bank is also going to start digital bank in Uzbekistan.[1]
