2025: Server hacking and 44GB data theft
On March 16, 2025, the information infrastructure of the Swiss communications manufacturer for companies and government agencies Ascom was subjected to a cyber attack. Hackers hacked into the servers of this company and stole 44 GB of confidential data.
The Hellcat ransomware group claimed responsibility for the invasion. It is known that the attack was carried out through the Jira platform: it is a workflow control tool for software development teams. The system is used for effective planning, process optimization, progress tracking, coordinated work and analytics. The Jira platform often contains sensitive data such as source code, authentication keys and IT plans, as well as customer information and internal discussions related to specific projects.
The cyber attack compromised Ascom's technical ticketing system. Other IT systems and client services were not affected, and business processes function as usual. No additional measures are required from customers and partners. Ascom maintains close contact with customers through regional offices, Ascom said in an official statement. |
During the hack, the attackers used the compromised credentials of one of the employees who had access to Ascom's Jira server. The Swiss firm's cyber security team is investigating the incident and assessing the extent of the breach. The work of the affected systems has been suspended. It is reported that criminals stole the source code of several products from Ascom, information about various projects, invoices, confidential documents and other data. Law enforcement agencies have been notified of the incident. The affected company does not disclose any additional technical details about the hack.[1]
