The Astrakhan state medical academy is founded in 1918 as medical faculty of the Astrakhan university. In 1922 all faculties of the university, except medical, were abolished, and the university is transformed to medical institute. In 1995 the Astrakhan state medical institute is renamed into the Astrakhan state medical academy. On October 31, 2014 V.I. Skvortsova signed the order on introduction of amendments to the charter of SEI VPO AGMA Russian Ministry of Health according to which the academy was renamed into the Astrakhan state medical university.
