Axis purchased Cognimatics

On June 7, 2016 Axis Communications announced acquisition of Cognimatics company. Financial terms of transaction on are disclosed^[1].

2015: Canon buys Axis for $2.8 billion

On February 10, 2015 it was announced Axis Communications sale to the Japanese producer of cameras and the office equipment of Canon. The cost of the transaction was 23.6 billion Swedish kronur (about $2.8 billion).^[2]

The Japanese vendor will pay 340 kroner counting on one stock of the Swedish company for acquisition of Axis which was the largest in the history of Canon that is 50% more than the market value of securities of Axis at the time of closing of biddings in Stockholm on February 9, 2015. The Board of Directors of Axis supported the offer of Canon unanimously.

Canon buys Axis for $2.8 billion

Axis specializes in development and sale of IP cameras for video surveillance. Canon is also present at this market and considers it growing, but does not call the sales profit of these products.

In 2014 Axis received revenue in the amount of 5.45 billion kroner ($647 million) that is 16% more, than the previous year. Net profit after payment of taxes was 539 million kroner ($64 million) against 479 million kroner in 2013. The company gains about a half of income in the USA, and 40% of revenue are the share of EMEA region (Europe, the Middle East and Africa).

Purchase of Axis became a part of strategy of Canon on diversification of the business in the conditions of drop in sales of digital cameras which was observed from 2012 to 2014. At the same time sale of office equipment, including printers and peripheral devices, grew.

In the conditions of transformation of own business Canon expects revenue in the amount of 3.9 trillion yens ($33.1 billion) at the end of 2015 that is 4.6% more than an indicator of year prescription. The forecast of the company for annual operating profit – 380 billion yens ($3.2 billion). In 2014 this indicator was 4.5% lower.

This forecast was made before Axis acquisition. Taking into account this transaction financial results of Canon can be reviewed.

The Japanese company says that purchase of Axis will help both companies to create the innovative and modern network solutions in the field of video surveillance. Did not announce terms of closing of the transaction of the company.
