History

2021: Site hacking

On April 25, 2021, the Ministry power engineering specialists Belarus announced the hacking of the website of the Belarusian nuclear power plant. As a result cyber attacks hackers , fake information was posted on the enterprise's Internet resource.

As indicated in the message on the website, official Minsk is trying to hide from the public information about breakdowns in the station's maintenance system and equipment malfunctions. Unknowns called themselves employees of an atomic object and noted that its operation in the current conditions could lead to a disaster.

The authors of the text noted that the text was published specifically on April 25, on the eve of the Chernobyl accident. They called on the "international community" to put pressure on President Alexander Lukashenko to get him to close the BelNPP. The Ministry of Energy of Belarus called this information fake and reported that the work of the BelNPP website is being restored.

Experts call this type of hacker attack "deface," when the page of the website is replaced by another page, most often containing advertising, threats or provoking warnings, page. In addition, attackers either block access to other segments of the site, or remove the previous content of the resource altogether.

The Belarusian NPP will consist of two power units, each with a capacity of 1200 MW. The first power unit of BelNPP by April 2021 is at a nominal power level. The second unit is planned to be put into industrial operation in 2022, its readiness by April 2021 is 80%.[1]
