In early September 2019, President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko said that Elon Musk gave him an electric car.

I have an electric Tesla car, I sometimes test it. Musk gave. And I still have an electric motorcycle, which the Minsk plant is already producing, - said the Belarusian leader in an interview with schoolchildren, a fragment of which was shown by the STV TV channel.

Alexander Lukashenko did not specify which Tesla model was presented to him by Elon Musk. Nothing was reported about the meeting between the president and the American businessman, and some Internet users doubted that the Tesla founder knew about Lukashenka's gift.

Earlier, the president tested the Tesla Model S in the most powerful version (P100D) on Belarusian roads. The head of state highly appreciated the characteristics of the car, noting that it "starts like a spacecraft, and even more powerful." During the test drive, he accelerated the electric car to a speed of 280 km/h.

Then the President of Belarus liked the Tesla electric car so much that he instructed local engineers to create a Belarusian analogue.

At the end of August 2019, Alexander Lukashenko held a special meeting in which manufacturers of Belarusian electric vehicles participated. He advised developers to "take a closer look" at Tesla. At the same time, the president recalled that Belarus needs a domestic electric car as soon as possible so as "not to weave in the tail of progress."

Tesla is not the only electric car in Lukashenka's garage. In 2017, during his visit to the BelG plant, representatives of the Chinese side presented the president with the Geely electric car.[1]
