Construction of a plant for the production of surgical stitching devices for 1 billion rubles

In the special economic zone (SEZ) "Moglino" of the Pskov region, the construction of a plant for the production of medical devices has begun. This became known in July 2024. The investment project worth more than ₽1 billion was approved by the SEZ expert council.

According to Pharmaceutical Bulletin, the new enterprise will specialize in the production of surgical endoscopic stitching devices, cassettes for them, as well as catheters for hemodialysis and other types of venous catheters. The implementation of the project will help reduce the dependence of Russian healthcare on imported medical devices.

The investor of the project is BetaMed. Alexey Stepanov, CEO of the company, said that the completion of construction and the launch of production are scheduled for the first quarter of 2026. According to him, it is during this period that it is planned to submit the first production samples.

The design capacity of the new plant is impressive: in the first year of operation, the company intends to produce about 160 thousand units of specialized products. The implementation of the project also involves the creation of more than 80 new jobs, which will have a positive effect on employment in the region.

Particular attention is paid to interaction with educational institutions. Rector of Pskov State University Natalya Ilyina took the initiative to use and test future products at the sites of universities specializing in the training of medical specialists. This idea was supported by the governor of the Pskov region Mikhail Vedernikov.

The project for the production of medical devices has passed several stages of approval. Prior to approval by the expert council of the Moglino SEZ, it was approved by the supervisory council of the special economic zone.[1]

A plant for the production of catheters for hemodialysis for 665 million rubles will be built in the Pskov region. The corresponding project of the BetaMed company was approved by the supervisory board of the Moglino special economic zone, the press service of the regional government said on January 16, 2024.

The project involves the development of domestic production of various medical devices. These are surgical endoscopic suturing devices, cassettes for them, catheters for hemodialysis and other types of venous catheters, etc. The main markets for the sale of products will be medical and preventive institutions, veterinary clinics in Russia and the CIS countries.

The maximum production volume after the release of all planned production lines is up to 820 thousand copies. As part of the project, it is planned to create about 70 workplaces. General Director of BetaMed LLC Alexey Stepanov noted that the project will be finalized, it is expected that a number of main indicators will be increased.

As of January 18, 2024, BetaMed has yet to receive approval from the Moglino SEZ expert council before becoming a resident and receiving the areas and requested resources. The company, according to the SPARK-Interfax system, was registered in the Pskov region less than two months ago - on November 27, 2023.

At the same time, Acting General Director of Moglino Anton Yakovlev in mid-January 2024 assured that the special economic zone is ready to provide the investor with the necessary areas and requested resources in full.

By the beginning of 2024, 15 residents are operating on the territory of the Moglino SEZ. Among them are the Estonian company Elme Messer Rus, specializing in the production of medical gases, and Screening-M LLC, which produces medical devices. The resident is also Pskovinbalk LLC (production of sterile medicines).[2]
