2020: Payment of state services in bitcoins in Switzerland
At the end of January, 2020 it became known that residents of the Swiss city of Tsermatt, the known ski resort, will be able to pay taxes in bitcoins. According to the mayor Romy Biner-Hauser, 5400 residents will be able to pay bills for taxes and other public services, such as work authorization, using cryptocurrency.
Support of cryptocurrency payments is implemented with the assistance of Bitcoin Suisse company therefore payment can be made through the application of the broker of Bitcoin Suisse AG who converts digital currency into francs and transfers the amount of municipality. For implementation of payment it is necessary to submit the application to local tax authority.
By words Binera-Hauzer, the idea of receiving tax payments in bitcoins arose in the Canton of Zug - local Swiss "cryptovalley" where most the companies which are engaged in a blockchain was located. The municipality of this canton began to accept taxes in bitcoins in 2016. Though the mayor Tsermatt Biner-Hauzer does not expect any serious changes from bitcoin transactions, it was curious to it to learn about new technology and to try to put it into practice.
Switzerland not the only country where began to accept taxes in bitcoins. In the city of Richmond Hill from the Canadian province of Ontario began to accept cryptocurrency for payment of the property taxes. For this purpose local authorities signed the agreement with the Coinberry platform which is engaged in payment processing in digital money. An opportunity and at residents of the State of Ohio was similar, however at the end of 2019 authorities of the state refused a possibility of payment of taxes in bitcoins. Failure from cryptocurrency payments was connected with the termination of support of the website via which transactions were carried out.[1]
