Revenue from sales to the company for the last financial year made $5.86 billion. Operating profit at the same time increased by 35.5% and exceeded $420.5 million. The net profit of Brother in 2010/2011 financial year exceeded $305.7 million, having increased in comparison with last year by 33.7%. According to the annual report of Brother, company it was succeeded to increase significantly sales in the Asian region. The most noticeable growth — more than 100% a year — fell on a segment of the industrial sewing equipment: the general sales of a Machinery and Solution segment in 2010/2011 financial year made about $774 million. Proceeds from sales of products of IT market (printers, the MFP and fax machines — Printing and Solutions) are $3.96 billion now.

According to GfK research company, by October, 2006 the vendor controlled 17% of the European market of monochrome laser printers and more than a third of the market of laser multi-function printers (MFPs)[1].

History of the company

The foundation of modern Brother was laid in 1908 in the Japanese city of Osaka by the ordinary citizen Kanekiti Yasui[2]

The company arose in a small family workshop on repair of sewing machines. Gradually business grew: in 1925 bartya Yasui - Dzitsuiti and Masayoshi - inherited business of the father and called Yasui Brothers' Sewing Machine Company. In a couple of years the company began to make straw hats, and in 7 years the first self-produced sewing machine was released. In 1934 the company was renamed into Nippon Sewing Machine Manufacturing Company – future Brother Industries, Ltd. In two years production grew five times, and sales growth caused the necessity of creation in 1941 of the whole new division – Brother Sales, Ltd.

Increase in production allowed brothers of Yasui to set the new task for itself - an exit to international market. The first delivery of the Japanese sewing machines took place in 1947 to Shanghai, and by 1959 export exceeded a symbolical mark of one million sewing machines. These years the Japanese company gradually mastered also a market niche of electric devices, new to itself: production of electric sewing machines, hair dryers, irons, vacuum cleaners, washers and other home appliances under a brand Brother, including portable typewriters began.

The first portable Brother typewriter appeared in 1961 – along with the beginning of construction of the new headquarters of the company in Nagoya. Same year the company accepted a name of the brand – Brother Industries Ltd. For read years export of Brother typewriters exceeded their "house" sales, and they became for those times the same reference product as transistor receivers of Sony or the Canon camera.

In 1966 the first portable electronic calculator from Brother was released, five years later the company created the next furor in the market, having created the first-ever high-speed matrix printer M-101, and in 1978 – the first P-14 typewriter with the letters grouped on a round head ("a ball for golf"). Next decade Brother developed production of the portable electronic printer on batteries.

"Globalization" of business of Brother was expressed in adoption in 1999 of the corporate Global charter (The Brother Group Global Charter) beginning words: "The main mission of Brother – to create and to quickly deliver to the consumer around the world products and services of excellent quality". And three years later the strategic plan of development of The Global Vision 21 in which three main strategic objectives of the company till 2012 are formulated was accepted: 1. Become the leading global high-profitable company; 2. Become the first-class producer using development of outstanding own technologies; 3. Make the advertizing slogan "On Your Party" a basis of all corporate culture.


In 2008 Brother noted the century. Printing devices (printers and multi-function printers) — the main direction on which the company is focused now. In the company 23,809 employees worldwide in 43 sales offices and 19 own plants[3] work[4]. In anniversary year turnover of the company in 9 months of 2008 financial year made $3.8 billion, and the share of sales of the company in Russia made, by different estimates, from 5% to 10%.

Brother becomes the Keeper of an Amur leopard of Leo 106M

On June 8, 2020 the Brother company reported that the Russian office Brother expands cooperation with ANO Dalnevostochnye leopardy fund and becomes the Keeper of a leopard of LEO 106M – the code name under which the leopard is known to specialists of fund and the reserve "Earth of a Leopard". The Brother company thought up for a leopard a name – the Brother (Oniisan in Japanese). Oniisan (Brother) – a male. Its age – about 5 years. The residence – the central part of national park "Earth of a leopard", the valley of the Barabashevka River. It is for the first time registered in 2016. Read more here.

Nail Gimaliyev is the CEO of Brazer LLC

The 2020th year - The CEO of Brazer LLC is Nail Gimaliyev. In the CIS in the direction of the office equipment 8 distributors, about 600 the selling dealers, more than 250 service centers work with the company.

2010: Seydzhi Tsudzhi's appointment CEO of Brazer LLC

Seydzhi Tsudzhi - since January, 2010 holds a position of the CEO of Brother LLC (Brazer LLC) in Russia. Earlier given post was held by Yosidzi Matsui. By estimates of analysts of representative office of Brother in Russia, the market share of the company in Russia makes from 5 to 10% depending on a segment during 2010-2011.

2009

In Russia and the CIS countries Brother works with sales channels, constantly expanding the list of partners. In July, 2009 the company had 9 distributors, about 600 the selling dealers, more than 150 service centers. As well as many vendors, Brother combats counterfeit products that is expressed in actions of destruction of a counterfeit[5].

2006: Registration of Brazer LLC

On July 19, 2006 in Russia Brazer LLC (Brother LLC) which undertook all work on import, a customs clearance and operational delivery of spare parts for[6] was registered[7].

2003: Opening of the Russian representative office of Brother

The Russian representative office of Brother opened in October, 2003. Before only the separate, disordered deliveries of products of Brother to the Russian customers[8] took place[9]. In 2003 at the Moscow office only 5 people worked.

Products and services of Brother

From five directions of business in which the company works is key "Solutions for printing" ("Printing and Solutions"). Products which are turned out by this division are known around the world - it is printers, multi-function printers, the systems of marking, printers of labels and scanners.

Products of Brother include laser, LED and jet devices, scanners, faxes and printers for printing of stickers. The company actively develops products for a fast-growing segment digital and smart technologies among which solutions for mobile printing and multimedia online services are selected: the web conference OmniJoinHD, BRDocs is a cloud service for management of documents.

2016

  • Black-and-white laser devices of the 6000th series - three printers and three MFPs created for the big enterprises. Each of models has a set of characteristics and a range of convenient solutions for printing, including support of short contactless distance communication (NFC) for secure access and authentication of users and also the BSI interface (Brother Solutions Interface) for ensuring transparent integration of printers and the MFP. This series of devices differs in the increased reliability and a high print speed (up to 50 p./min.).
  • Black-and-white laser devices of the 5000th series are the three printers and three MFPs created for a segment of SMB. This series provides reliability, durability and enhanced capabilities of integration. Also this line can brag of a possibility of simple and safe printing from any mobile device.

Technologies and certificates of the company

  • TCO 99 - the international standard of environmental friendliness of the office equipment developed by the Swedish confederation of professional employees - Tjanstemannens Centrealorganisation - in 1999. The first producer of the printers conforming to the TCO 99 standards is Brother [1].
  • Blauer Engel - environmental standard of Blauer Engel (Blue Angel) was founded in Germany in 1978. The corresponding emblem is provided to a product after successful testing by independent Institute of RAL. Only the products, most harmless to the environment, have the right to use this emblem recognized around the world. A number of the Brother models have such emblem [2].
  • Energy Star is the standard developed for certification of energy-efficient devices. Products of Brother are certified under this standard [3].
  • Innobella is the technology including a special formula of ink, a special line of supplies, specially developed paper.
