2025: Hacker Attack
In mid-August 2025, it became known that cybercriminals stole the personal data of tens of thousands of guests of Italian hotels. This information is for sale on the dark web.
According to law enforcement agencies, the hacker Italy group Mydocs is behind the hack. The attack affected luxury hotels in cities such as Venice and Trieste, as well as on the island of Capri. In addition, it is reported that documents were stolen from a luxury hotel on the Spanish island of Mallorca.
InIn Italy, to check in to hotels, you must provide an identity card, which is usually copied at the reception. Many hotels use computer systems to automatically digitize data. Local police found that the attackers illegally entered the booking systems of various hotels in Italy since June 2025. This allowed them to access scans of passports, ID cards and other documents that guests provided when checking in.
In total, about 70 thousand digitized documents were stolen. According to the newspaper Corriere del Veneto, the four-star Ca'dei Conti hotel in Venice, from whose IT systems about 38 thousand documents were stolen, was most badly damaged. According to the State Agency for Digitalization of Italy (Agid), this information is put up for sale at a price of €800 to €10 thousand. Personal data can be used to organize various fraudulent schemes aimed at stealing money, in particular, personalized phishing attacks. Cybercriminals had at their disposal information not only about tourists, but also about persons making business trips: these can be entrepreneurs, civil servants of other countries, etc.[1]
