2025: Designation of State Nature Reserve
The Cape Martyan State Nature Reserve will appear in Yalta on the basis of the regional park of the same name. The corresponding decree in mid-October 2025 was signed by the Chairman of the Government of the Russian Federation Mikhail Mishustin.
As noted, the area of Cape Martyan is one of the few preserved reference Mediterranean landscapes of Crimea with a unique composition of terrestrial and marine life. Relict forests of high juniper (Juniperus excelsa) grow there in its natural environment, and the fauna has more than 1,300 species of animals, some of which are listed in the Red Book.
The total area of the reserve will be 241.4 hectares, including part of the adjacent Black Sea with an area of 122.8 hectares. More than 150 species of marine animals live in it. The implementation of the project is expected to help support the conservation of biological diversity of both the land and sea parts of Cape Martyan.
| The creation of a specially protected natural area will reduce the uncontrolled anthropogenic load and create conditions for scientific research, the development of tourism and environmental education, the government said in a statement. |
The Cape Martyan State Nature Reserve will be under the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation. The department was instructed to ensure the regime of special protection of natural complexes and objects on the territory of the reserve. The necessary work will be carried out jointly with the Council of Ministers of the Republic of Crimea. Funds for the project are provided within the budget allocations provided for in the framework of the state program "Scientific and Technological Development of the Russian Federation." Information on the establishment of the boundaries of the reserve will be sent to the Unified State Register of Real Estate by December 1, 2025.[1]
