In January, 2019 it became known of use in supermarkets of "smart" carts of Caper company which are capable to replace traditional cash desks.
The device is supplied with cameras and sensors which allow to scan barcodes of goods and to define their hit in a food basket. The built-in scales for fast weighing of purchases are also provided instead of doing it at the checkout or in the shop hall.
On the touch display the list of the goods which were included in the check is output. The integrated payment terminal allows to pay purchase by means of the bank card or payment services of the Apple Pay and Android Pay. Thus, it is possible to make purchases without standing in queue in cash desk.
Besides, the cart can show to the buyer special offers and discounts of supermarket, and is in the future going to expand the system of recommendations, showing to clients goods which can add what they already took and to show on the interactive map the appropriate place in shop (for example, to send the buyer behind parmesan if he purchased spaghetti).
By the beginning of 2019 such carts found application in two large supermarkets in New York. The Caper company is going in visible to implement in the future technology in 150 shops.
For business development the startup needs money, and it found them. To the middle of January, 2019 developers attracted in total $3.5 million investments which will go for creation of bigger number of carts and their delivery to shops.
This development should attract many retailers as, according to in Caper, "smart" carts allow to increase an average bill of the buyer for 18%.
Large retailers actively master automation, and Amazon began to open shops without sellers and cashiers. Such sales points, according to analysts of RBC Capital Markets, are 1.5 times more effective than traditional shops.[1]
